Imagine you go to your Doctor for a regular check up …. Before you're comfortably seated in your chair the Doctor excitedly tells you;?
"Chris, good news! We're going to put you on this wonderful new drug! It's all the rage, a major breakthrough in medicine and everyone is doing it! In fact, I want to make sure we get you on it right away so you don't miss out!"?
I'm confused. What's going on? I didn't know anything was wrong.
"Sorry Doctor, why are we considering this?"?
"Chris it's a wonderful drug! It cures just about everything!"?
"I see, so did something come up on my tests?"?
"Oh, I am not sure, I haven't had time to look at them, I've been busy researching this new medicine!"?
If you had an interaction like that I think most of you would run fast and find a new Doctor, I know I would. Sadly though our interactions about technology sometimes can a similar path where we get so enamored with the idea of a new technology we don't spend enough time figuring out the "so what?". What is the problem that needs to be solved and is the latest technology something that can help? Perhaps this particular pain calls for nothing more than some process improvement??
Keeping up with new technology and trying to understand the role it might play is not bad. Most times though, relevance and value from technology means knowing what the pain is.

1 年Indeed Chris Foster the analogy reflects the reality now a days, Many are running behind a trend without analyzing the real need, purpose and value.
