Celebrating over a century of engineering innovation
‘Expanding the Possible’ explores how engineering is advancing the built environment. From innovations in building systems to the Internet of Things, from digital services connecting the modern workplace to combating the impact of climate change … we delve into exciting developments in today’s and tomorrow’s building infrastructure.
EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare has been selected as the preferred proponent to design, build, finance and maintain the new South Niagara Health Hospital project. HH Angus is excited to be part of the team providing consulting services for mechanical engineering and conveyance systems (automated guided vehicles, autonomous mobile robots, and vertical transportation).
Our Tenant Services team works with clients to customize interiors of offices, showrooms, restaurants, meeting rooms, clinics and more. They design M&E, HVAC, AV, lighting, security, communications, IMIT, IoT and life safety systems, while meeting standards for LEED?, WELL?, Fitwel and smart building certification. Find out how COVID changed everything about how workplaces function, and what employers can do to upgrade their spaces.
Building owners who are heating and cooling with fossil fuel energy sources are increasingly looking for solutions to reduce their buildings reliance on these fuels. This particularly applies to people-oriented buildings, such as commercial, institutional, and condo/multifamily residential buildings. Check out our three-part series on heat pumps.
Laura is a manager in our Health Division. Find out why she chose the engineering profession and how she avoided getting typecast in one role.
A new gas plant with 217.5MW capacity is being installed at the existing site. Careful phasing and design is required to support full operations until switchover from the old plant can be completed so the plant can continue to serve its 200 buildings during construction. As part of Creative Energy’s new steam plant, being developed in conjunction with the new West Bank Development at the intersection of Beatty St. & West Georgia, 44 MW of electric boilers are being installed as part of Creative Energy’s low carbon strategy.
If construction closeout is not completed properly, deadlines are missed, owners are upset, and costs spiral out of control. Kevin O’Neill, HH Angus’ VP Operations & Director, Commercial Division, shares some key takeaways on construction closeout from a consulting engineer’s perspective.
Interest in and implementation of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) has become more common in healthcare capital projects, with clients recognizing the value these systems can bring in terms of productivity, safety and efficiency.

For most building infrastructure, energy consumption contributes significantly to operational cost and risk. Energy needs represent a recurring, long-term expense for building owners who can benefit greatly from proactive management. An energy master plan can provide a roadmap to guide scalable and effective approaches to achieve deep energy savings, improved resilience, reduced carbon emissions, and increased reliability. This article explores the benefits of energy master planning through lessons learned from a range of projects we have delivered.
