When it comes to creating high-quality content for LinkedIn, a lot of people get stuck in the idea phase.
Is that you? Do you panic, thinking:
“OMG OMG OMG, what will I ever write about? Why would anyone care about what I say?”
But here’s the thing…?
It isn’t about what you know, or whether people will care about what you have to say.
Your LinkedIn content ideas should focus on one thing:
What you want to be known for.
If you start with “what do I have to offer”??
You’ll end up wracking your brain for ideas that may or may not connect with your prospects…
And that is a lot less likely to help you land the clients and gigs that you want.
But if your content focuses on what you want to be known for, you’ll begin to build credibility in the right direction.
People who need the services that you want to be known for will think of you when they’re in their time of need.
And that is the whole purpose of creating regular content here on LinkedIn. To stay top of mind for those people.

So, keeping in mind what you want to be known for, now you can start to look for content ideas.
Here are three of my favorite places to get content ideas for LinkedIn (and beyond):
1. Answer questions.
I like to say that questions are the answer to everything. That’s why simply answering questions your prospects ask is one of the easiest ways to create content that attracts the right clients.
How do you find the questions your prospects are asking?
Most important is to keep a list of any questions that clients or people in your network ask you. Also, watch the comment sections in LinkedIn posts and YouTube channels… check Slack channels, Reddit threads, Facebook groups or other forums where your prospects hang out.
Just make sure that the questions you answer are about the thing you most want to be known for.
2. Solve problems.
Aim to solve your prospects’ problems or pain points in your posts.?
The point of creating content isn’t to build a large following or even get lots of comments and “engagement.” The point is to help the people you’ve invited into your network to know, like, and trust you, so they’ll remember you in their time of need.
One of the best ways to do that is to share content that solves their problems, or addresses their pain points.

And remember: always solve problems related to what you want to be known for.
3. Share what you’re learning.?
Again, keeping in mind what you want to be known for, share what you’re learning.?
I love this option, because people often assume they need to be an expert or know everything about a topic to share about it, but that’s just not true.
Sharing what you’re learning shows prospects that you’re curious, that you’re staying on top of ideas and trends, and that you’re willing to learn and grow.
So, what are you reading or listening to? What new ideas have you come across? Share them here on LinkedIn, as well as on your blog, in your newsletter, or in emails to your list. You can always add your own take to make it your own.

And just in case you tend to assume, “Oh, I’m sure they already know about that”...?
Remember that people like to be reminded of what they already know. Don't you too?
Coming up with high-quality content for LinkedIn doesn’t have to be complicated.
You could create a post today by following these simple steps:
1. Identify what you want to be known for.
It’s ok if you don’t know, exactly. Pick something and focus on that. It can always change! (If you know what you want to be known for, share in the comments!)
2. Pick one aspect to focus on.
Find a question you can answer, a problem you can solve, or simply share a passage in a book you’ve read recently. Keep it short and helpful.
3. Put it out there, as imperfect as it is.
The harsh reality is that people aren’t really paying attention to what you say on LinkedIn. So just write the post… and post it! Over time, as you build up momentum and consistency, your connections will take notice and reach out in their time of need. That’s what I call “content magic!”

3 个月So spot on for posting about we want to be known for. I write a blog on "moving forward". One comment to my blog has been my ability to make self care not so clinical and theory based. This is exactly what I want you be known for.. Great advice given Ilise.

3 个月Funny, yesterday I posted about a kitten that walked in and just straight up went to sleep on top of my keyboard. The only "work-related" aspect was that I needed to get work done but the littlle critter was taking a real good snooze fest on my laptop. The post got some decent engagement (relatively) and it made me think that there's also space to be more human from time to time. Of course, your content marketing has to be human and never devoided of it, but perhaps doing stuff just for fun is also allowed in a good measure.
