IDEAL
As an adjective for common use IDEAL means satisfying one’s conception of what is PERFECT, and PERFECT is usually unrealistic so IDEAL is usually an imaginary state.
As a noun discussing ETHICS an IDEAL is a principle or value that one actively pursues as a goal. Such an IDEAL is realistic though we may not achieve it or adhere to it 100% of the time.
Seems like IDEALS are really good things to strive for, yet being IDEALISTIC often describes being unrealistic in the pursuit of lofty or grand goals.
What if one’s IDEAL is to be the most useful within real-world settings? Would being IDEALISTIC mean being unrealistically realistic?
