Idea Decanter’s Top 10 Team Values

Running an all-virtual team that feels like a connected community is not easy. Sure, there are some huge advantages of being virtual. Actual commute time = zero. Time spent packing a lunch for ourselves in the morning = zip. Barista markup at our kitchen counter = zilch.?

We’ve been running this way for ten years now. That’s right, 10! As the Idea Decanter team celebrates our double-digit anniversary this month, we wanted to dig a little deeper.

Once every four months, Idea Decanter gathers virtually as a team for Development Day. Why three times a year? Four seemed too much, and two was not often enough.

We dedicated one of these Dev Days to identifying our personal values and then figuring out how they aligned with the company. It was a little like playing a game of solitaire. We each had a deck of values cards spread out in our home offices. We rearranged those cards with words like “humor” and “facing challenges” … then after some lively conversation, we narrowed in on what mattered to each of us that we brought to the team.
