IDE Evolution

IDE Evolution

During the 1980s, our programming environments were basic text editors without syntax highlighting and pretty printers. Debuggers were separate programs that required cryptic keystrokes. However, in the 1990s, companies recognized the potential revenue from providing better programming tools, and thus the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) was introduced. Modern IDEs come equipped with numerous features such as automated refactoring, the ability to enforce style rules, and a gradual learning curve. Despite the convenience of modern IDEs, it is important to invest effort in learning how to use them effectively, starting with memorizing keyboard shortcuts and touch typing. Additionally, Unix streaming tools can be helpful in manipulating code. As programmers, it is our responsibility to study and become proficient with our IDEs to maximize productivity. #IDEEfficiency
