IDD in NL this June | Time for serious play | Teacher educators + more

Dear Colleagues,

In my part of the world, tulips are in bloom, chicks are hatching, and signs abound of hope and renewal—all despite the very present, often grim local and global challenges that we share these days.

It's?this paradox—“the triumph of optimism over experience”—that motivates us?to not only keep at our work, but also to find new, more effective ways of going about it, to?continually invest in?ourselves to see the better—if not the best—in one another, and help those we work with do the same.

Learning Together + More

And so we’re delighted to share that?pre-registration is open?for the?2022 European Developing Across Differences Learning Lab & Community Week, happening?from 19-25 June in Groningen, Netherlands?in partnership with the University of Groningen/Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.

We have designed this inaugural in-depth training and knowledge creation event?specifically for experienced practitioners and scholars like you?who wish to continue to grow together with one another in a vibrant global community.

The Learning Lab is based on the same premise undergirding the IDD: We can improve our individual and collective impact by understanding where there are (and are not) intersections among 4 key areas?of study and practice in the Differences field—Intercultural communication, Global learning, Anti-discrimination/Diversity & inclusion, and Global competence—then borrowing from and expanding on them.?

We invite you to hone your expertise in any one of the 4 narratives?or learn about new ones this June together with?our outstanding faculty:?Milton Bennett, Dima Bou-Mosleh, Darla Deardorff, Barry van Driel, Sherifa M.B.E. Fayez, Gorik van Helleputte, Jana Hollá, Nene Molefi, Maja Nenadinovi?, Mai Nguyen and Nagesh Rao…among others.?

Otherwise, at this time next week, I'll be together with 100 Teacher Educators from around the world for the?Teaching and Learning for an Inclusive, Interconnected World Conference?in Sestri Levante, Italy. IDD Advisors and Friends Annette Gisevius and Verónica Boix-Mansilla will be key-noting at this event that examines the?latest scholarship and programming for global competence in teacher education. The Institute is co-organizing the event together with the Association of Teacher Educators in Europe, the Eramsus+ funded GCTE initiative and the University of Genoa.

Finally, two names you may have seen recently linked with the IDD are?Mike Nike Windmüller?and?Phuong-Vy (Vyvy) Tran. Mike Nike has just graduated from a Master's program at (aptly!) the University of Groningen and, with a degree in HR already under her belt, Vyvy is currently undertaking a second Bachelor's in intercultural communication in Denmark. A big thank you to both of these early-career peers who are already making a difference.

They, Nadine and I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming IDD event soon.

Warmly,

Melissa Liles, Founding Director, Institute for Developing Across Differences
