ICYMI October Edition: Title 24, a large Seattle build and the benefits of continuous insulation
Title 24 resources for high performance attics and walls
Make sure you're up to date on Title 24 changes. As of January 1, 2023, Title 24 mandated new and updated energy efficiency regulations for residential construction in the State of California. These include changes to wall and attic insulation as well as overall energy efficiency compliance.
Our Title 24 resource page has the updated codes, as well as new insulation guides and a FAQ.
Insulating one of the largest residential projects in Seattle
A large mixed-use project in a historic Seattle neighborhood required COMMERCIAL INSULATION SERVICE, LLC, A LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY OF WASHINGTON (CIS) to think outside the box. They used spray foam and fiberglass batts to overcome some unexpected challenges during installation.
Challenge
The insulation specifications called for spray foam insulation, both by itself and as part of a hybrid system with fiberglass batts, which is unusual for a high-rise building. The project at 1120 Denny Way features:
Because the site is located in the middle of the busiest downtown Seattle neighborhood, there were additional hurdles in receiving and storing supplies on site. Plus, construction occurred during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and staff needed to socially distance while working.
