Iceberg Theory/Jack Pearne

Adapting to working from home can be a challenge. It took me several weeks to get used to my set up and routine. Normally getting to the office at 7.40am and grabbing a coffee, this had all changed. Even the set up for my desk and laptop. It took me time to adjust.

Some of us have flourished and when I look at it I feel that it’s set up for people to succeed. It’s changed the way we can succeed at work.

A member of my team, who I've worked with for roughly 6 years is a prime example.

Jack Pearne, is probably the hardest worker I have seen in my time. From day one he was head down and worked his socks off.

Now, did Jack have set backs? YES.

Did he have countless frustrations when things didn’t go his way? YES.

Hand on heart did he have times where he thought "what am I doing?" YES.

But did he give up and throw in the towel? NO.

Along his journey I have seen him develop and I could see the rough diamond ready to shine.

Now if we are honest with ourselves we couldn’t tell you quite how to get him there. We worked with him and knew there was something we could tweak, but just couldn’t put our finger on it.

But then circumstances changed, we went into lockdown. Now Jack, who for years wanted to work from home, now had the opportunity. He adapted like no other, reverted to what he knows - hard work, dedication and focus. He found that he didn’t have the day to day distractions he found in the office. This has enabled him to push on and deliver. Now when I say deliver he has exceeded any expectations I had for him and believe you and me, I set them high.

Jack has worked on certain clients for years, had so many setbacks and frustrations over this period. Now the normal person gives up and accepts defeat and finds someone or something to blame. Not Jack, he kept fighting and fighting. He finally landed these clients but not only did he land these clients but he delivered a 100% conversion with them. What Jack had been doing over the years was, working the clients and roles as if he had already won them. What a mindset to have, “I will land these clients, so I’ll work their roles”.

That’s the dedication he has. He didn’t just accept the first win he had by picking up the vacancies. He had to deliver on the hard work he'd put in already and made sure he filled the vacancies. After all the years of hard work, it's paying off.

This is a prime example of the iceberg theory. (Please look it up and check that out). This is Jack. It’s the hard work underneath you don’t see, The valuable hours, the setbacks, everything that goes in to help you succeed.

But also the way Jack adapted to working from home to create huge success for himself. He was designed for this set up and definitely what he needed. This was the missing piece, this is what he needed and we finally know what he needed to flourish.

A huge positive from working from home and I'm sure we could all learn from him.

So a massive congratulations to Jack and his determination, dedication, hardwork and adaptability. Making a huge success from working from home.
