Ice skating, with LASERS, 7 reasons to buy a home in the Winter & MORE!
Greetings,
I hope this message finds you healthy and well. December is here and holiday season is really in full swing! There is so much to do, you can easily get lost in the options. Don’t worry, I’ll help you with some solid recommendations as well as give you a couple of tips to save a loved one money!
What’s my first highlight you ask? A new winter festival with ice skating, a holiday laser show and movies will come to Louisville's Paristown from Nov. 27 to Jan. 5. Fête De No?l, or Festival of Christmas, will feature the city's "only authentic outdoor skating rink", according to organizers. The rink, at 720 Brent St., will measure 100 feet by 50 feet and host skaters, hockey clinics with the U of L Hockey Team and the Ice Warrior Veteran Hockey Team, a performance of the "Nutcracker on Ice" by the Louisville Skating Academy, a silent disco on ice and a Drag Queens on Ice fundraiser on Dec. 13 for Kentuckiana Pride.
The festival also will include ornament decorating, laser shows set to holiday music, food and drinks, and holiday movie nights that will show classics such as "It’s a Wonderful Life", "A White Christmas" and "Polar Express".A one-hour skate session costs $12 dollars per person with skate rental and $9 without. A season pass costs $45.The festival runs weekdays from 4 to 9 p.m., except Fridays, when it runs until 11 p.m. On weekends, activities begin at noon and end at 11 p.m. Saturdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. The festival will have extended hours on Nov. 29, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Years' Day. For more information go to https://www.paristown.com/fetedenoel
December looks to be one of the best months of the year for Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts! They’ll be featuring The Louisville Ballet’s rendition of The Nutcracker, A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage, and the Champions of Magic Show!

Friday December 27th, Unknown Hinson returns to Louisville ast the Zanzabar! He is perhaps best known for his role as the voice of Early Cuyler on the Adult Swim animated series Squidbillies. He’s a ton of fun to see live and a real “dying breed” kind of character.Did you know the Louisville Palace is showing a series of classic films this month that includes Elf, Krampus, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Die Hard? Take this rare opportunity to take in a classic flick with your loved ones in the iconic space! Click here for more information.
Did you know that Winter is one of the BEST times to buy a home? Why you might ask? Check out my short white video here!
But… What if you want to sell AND buy during the winter? In that scenario you would still have a Net gain if you are trading up. Let’s say homes are selling for 5% less across the board(for example). While you may not get as premium of a price for your home as you might get in the middle of the summer, that higher priced home you are looking to go into, is also down 5%, resulting in a net gain in your favor.
December home maintenance tips
1. Before it gets too cold to venture outside, examine the grounds around your home. Check walkways for cracks and loose pavers. Fix all issues around your entryway now before slippery weather hits which can cause falling accidents.
2. Unpack and test all electrical holiday decorations, discard any that are not functioning properly.
3. Check the operation of all ground-fault circuit interrupter outlets by pushing the “test” button. The “reset” button should pop out at that time indicating the receptacle is operating properly.
4. Check inside of bathroom vanities and kitchen sink cabinets for any moisture or other signs of leaks.
5. Double check insulation around exterior pipes that are exposed to freezing weather to be certain that water cannot seep under the insulation.
6. Inspect the operation of automatic light timers and motion-detector systems, especially if you plan on traveling for the holidays.
7. Change the filter in your Heating system. Thirty days is the longest you should wait, especially during peak usage months
As far as the rest of the month goes, take some time off with loved ones if you can. No matter what, take whatever time you can to step away from the hustle and bustle and hit the reset button. A wise woman once told me, “we sabotage our ability to be effective if we don’t recharge our batteries.”
