?????????This might be the best yet - exterminate them for good! For the future – sustainable future.

?????????It’s called a gene drive. Basically, you insert a mutation that will make almost all descendants of the mutant infertile (or any other mutation you want, of course, but this one seems the most straightforward). So, it follows that in a few generations, the whole population will die out. Easy-peasy, right? Apparently, But not quite so. As of yet.

?????????Here’s a very good article which explains it in more detail if you’re interested; including the pitfalls.

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-02087-5

??????????It is contended, and I agree, that such novel techniques should have a “dry run”. Among the problems mentioned are:

??????????i) resistance to the gene drive – Ok, so what? Get as many as you can and kill the rest by other means

?????????ii) if the genetic material within the target population is too varied, some individuals might be missing the specific DNA sequence targeted; again, what is to lose except some money (not too much)? And the negative results will contribute to the experience and will prompt the finding of solutions. So it’s research. Who doesn’t want to spend on research? Boko haram I guess ha ha.

?????????iii) while it’s been used with great success against mosquitoes (the diseases they spread kill 700,000 people each year!), it’s not so easy against mammalian pests.

?????????iv) ethical issues. If it’s concern about bad actors using this technique to do damage – well it’s up to the authorities to address it. If it’s about exterminating the whole (worldwide even) population of some pest or other, then I don’t see the problem. Of course the effect over the environment must be considered. Scientists thought of a solution for that too: if for some reason or another, we decide we don’t want to exterminate said pest anymore, they used the same technique (CRISPR) to reverse the gene drive.

?So this particular wondrous weapon needs to be thoroughly and exhaustively tested and then maybe it will get the green light... Some time will pass. But I think all the drawbacks can be overcome and, used by good people, it will do a lot of good.

?Until then,

Ha ha! Love this guy! ?

?????????I also tried to do my share in exterminating pests - cockroaches by this method :) – unfortunately it didn’t cross my mind to film myself. I didn’t do it for the world to see. I was just drinking with friends and grabbed one of the ‘lil critters strolling around. But it would’ve ben nice to have that clip to embed in this piece... Now that I’m thinking about it, he was kinda slow, so maybe he was full of insecticide ha ha so I ate that too... Well, what can you do.

?????????Actually, don’t do it. ALL animals NOT kept in the evil and un-human conditions animals we eat are kept in, are FULL of PARASITES. Flak salmonella, E. coli and other related sh....tuff – IPOT - I P On Them. I ate rare chicken (as I always do) in the midst of the bird flu I dunno how many years ago. Same for pork during swine flu...?I don’t care. Same for the latest – Corona *. But parasites... I can’t whoop their asses he he. And neither can you.

Heart-breaking.

And with what quiet dignity is poor mom Katie bearing the unbearable pain...

______________

* Don’t get me wrong, I respect all social distancing measures. (but it's been less than half a year in total for me - two years is WAAAY too much!) But not for myself, for the others – for society. Sadly, it is not enough by itself. In addiction, EVERYbody must be tested – THAT is the solution – see my post Corona Defeated. I just thought of a dirty pun now, with “defeated” ;)

?????????R I P mates, not your fault, could’ve happened to any guy. This is what we do... But do NOT do it!

?????????I’m not saying not to eat live stuff. It’s being a man. Do it!

?????????But take the f...ritter to the doctor to de-worm it before! (that’s a joke, yeah). Just don’t eat it.

??????????Ok, and one last thing.?

??????????After V-Day and actually during this breeze-through war, the enemy casualties must be taken care of, right? No, I’m not thinking dignified burial; but they can’t be left to rot in the open air (or worse, inside). So what then???????????

The dead mice not eaten by our voracious allies can be frozen by the container and sold for pet food manufacturing, zoo food and even fodder for the animals that we eat. Why not? I’m sure that a poor pig would much rather eat a juicy, organic mouse than the fish flour they’re currently being fed. Thereby, at least some of the expenses of the Great Mouse War will be recouped. ?????????

Hell, even humans should have no qualms about eating field mice. I lived in Asia for many years and I ate field mice in Vietnam and Thailand. What’s the problem? They’re delicious. If properly cooked, like any wildlife should be, what’s the down? In South-East Asia, these mice also damage crops – though not at the scale they’re doing now in Oz. So the locals hunt them and eat them. They get a free, easy-to-catch source of protein AND protect their crops. It’s a win-win.

Vietnam????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???? Indonesia

As you can see, different styles, to fit anyone’s taste ;)).

Anyway, my point is, after you massacre them, don’t just throw them in the dump. When for so many people, close to Australia even, meat is a luxury, to throw away food is a shame. Send the dead rats to them, if you don' want them.?? ??

But do try them yourselves. Only problem for me is too much bone for the meat I get. But the meat is great!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKurqcNpDUw

?????????Ok, but what about the ones offed by birdshot? Hmm. Off the top of my head, use some chemical & heat processing to turn the lead-ridden mice into some kind of paste. Then put it in a centrifuge that will separate the heavier lead from the lighter mice mush. Also, could add some kind of sieve through which the meat-paste can pass, but the balls, no. Done! Enjoy! ????????????????????????????

One more idea! Rotating the mush with the lead in it in a magnetic field will give rise to eddy currents in the balls, which in turn will create a magnetic field opposing the initial magnetic field (Lenz’s law), hence pulling the tiny lead balls out of the mush. Bingo again!?????????Needless to say, the meat thus obtained should NOT be for human consumption ;). There are plenty of clean-killed mice, by our furred or winged friends.?

?????????So there you go – so easy – so many ways – so... doable ;)!!

I called my work, in an earlier post, “Se7en and a half ways to Kill the Mice”.

But I kept thinking up more and more new ways! So now, I guess it’s more like “Eleve11 and a half Ways to I.C.E. the Mice”.

Can’t stop. I keep finding new mice exterminators.

Mah pleasure.

?Tha – tha – tha - that’s all, folks!
