This paradox, in which we disseminate and integrate AI into everyday life, announcing our control and mastery while confronting its inexplicable behavior, is a testament to human hubris and hope rolled into one.
It echoes the ancient Greek tragedies in which fate and human folly haunt the darkness, reminding us that the belief in absolute control is a flirtation with delusion.
Heidegger warned of "enframing," the tendency to view everything, including ourselves, as mere resources for exploitation. In our interaction with AI, we are tempted to see it as a tool fully at our behest, neglecting the reality that we are entwining our fate with entities that operate beyond our complete comprehension. This "enframing" mindset closes our eyes to the ethical, philosophical, and existential questions that AI raises, questions about the nature of intelligence, consciousness, and the future of human identity.
Let us not be seduced by the illusion of control but instead cultivate a mindful stewardship of AI, one that cherishes the mysteries of intelligence, both artificial and human, as gateways to wisdom rather than obstacles to dominion. We may find the true path to understanding in the humility of not knowing.

8 个月It's becoming clear that with all the brain and consciousness theories out there, the proof will be in the pudding. By this I mean, can any particular theory be used to create a human adult level conscious machine. My bet is on the late Gerald Edelman's Extended Theory of Neuronal Group Selection. The lead group in robotics based on this theory is the Neurorobotics Lab at UC at Irvine. Dr. Edelman distinguished between primary consciousness, which came first in evolution, and that humans share with other conscious animals, and higher order consciousness, which came to only humans with the acquisition of language. A machine with only primary consciousness will probably have to come first.
