A message from Fellowship Director Prof. Dr. José Ramón Caeiro Rey
Dear fellows,
Welcome to the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Santiago, Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service Team!
It was founded in 1999. It is made up of more than 5,500 professionals and 1,400 beds. The Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology service has 45 attending physicians and 10 residents.
The orthopedic and traumatology surgery service trains 2 COT resident interns per year, and we receive resident physicians from other hospitals to complete training rotations in different units (shoulder, hand, spine, etc.).
It it a modern tertiary hospital, Level I Trauma Center, treating a population of 450,000 people and a secondary hospital for no complex or urgent surgery.
We are an orthopedic team of 33 staff and 10 residents (accredited for 15), with 50 surgical sessions per week, that cover all subspecialities.
The upper limb unit, with 8 staff, uses 13 of those facilities to treat more than 1,200 patients per year.
