Amazon has taken such a big leap in cloud computing that industry has mixed words "Amazon EC2" and Cloud with each other. Google is also on the scene with its offering in cloud computing while Microsoft is trying to get his server infrastructure market share back with Microsoft Azure.
Among these 3 major players are kind of managed cloud offerings like Rakespace which does not allow you to create a single server on its infrastructure without subscribing to their managed service. ( This implies a minimum charge irrespective of amount of hours you use over there).
Old big players like IBM are also in this market since many years although mass market is not taking notice of them.
Softlayers is such offering by IBM. How it is different from other market players. I have come across a good article about it. Its an old one but still gave some useful insights.
According to article, "SoftLayer is so different from all the competition out there that it’s not a simple question to answer".

8 年You are right ! SoftLayer is different and Amazon because of the early starter advantage, is almost synonymous with Cloud in the market. I think IBM really has to do some good marketing to make people aware of SoftLayer :-)
