IBM Power10: The next leap
Customer engagement has always provided me with valuable insights, helping shape the vision for product enhancements. Our dialogue with customers underscores the growing need for efficient solutions that can tackle demanding workloads via hybrid cloud solutions. To serve this need, I’m proud to share that IBM Power recently announced additional servers in the Power10 product family focused on flexibility and value.?
IBM Power E1050: Powering performance that sets world records
This is an exciting development for our customers and IBM. The new product delivers superior performance leveraging some of the same technologies and innovations as our high-end system. The new IBM Power E1050 is a powerful 4U, 4-socket midrange system. It has up to 96 Power10 processor cores – twice the number of the Power E950 – in the same footprint which enables companies to reduce energy and cooling costs to meet their sustainability objectives.?
This increase in core count, combined with up to 38% more per core performance, amplifies the performance impact in real-world environments for data-intensive workloads like SAP HANA. In fact, the Power E1050 delivered a world record 4-socket two-tier SAP SD standard application benchmark result [1].
IBM Power S1014, S1022 and S1024: Innovation journey for hybrid cloud continues?
In our model of co-creating with customers, we endeavor to ideate and rethink solutions that will create significant value for our customers.??
We’ve optimized our scale-out portfolio to provide customers value around key segments with new server models for Power10, including the Power S1014, Power S1022, and Power S1024. All of these systems use the same processors and memory technologies as our Power E1050 and thus realize many of the same advantages.

The Power S1024 has double the number of cores compared to the Power S924, and we've also doubled the memory capacity to 8 TB – the only 2-socket system with that much DRAM capacity, making it ideal for small to mid-size SAP HANA environments. The Power S1022, with up to 40 Power10 cores and 2 TB is ideal for scale-out clusters, development, application workloads, and containerized OpenShift-based workloads. Finally, the Power S1014, the workhorse platform for many of our IBM i SMB customers, remarkably delivers over 85% more performance per core than the Power S914. Now our current and new IBM i customers can save more on software licensing and get even more performance from their system. Lastly, we are offering Capacity Upgrade on Demand in the scale-out portfolio for the first time – enabling clients the flexibility to instantly and seamlessly expand their capacity on-premises to meet future business demands.
The road ahead?
IBM Power’s commitment to delivering best-in-class systems built for large data and memory workloads is unwavering.
