IBM Introduces Watsonx Platform to Accelerate Business with Next-Generation Foundation Models
IBM has launched Watsonx, an AI and data platform aimed at supporting the scaling and acceleration of advanced AI with reliable data. The technology stack facilitates the training, tuning and deployment of machine learning models, including foundation models, across all organizational platforms with the necessary governance, speed and trust in one location. At the Think conference, IBM announced that Watsonx offers an AI development studio that delivers access to IBM-curated and trained foundation models and open-source models, an integrated data store to gather and clean training data, and an AI governance toolkit. IBM Consulting is collaborating with Hugging Face to deliver the best open-source AI models to the enterprise on the Watsonx platform. Furthermore, Watsonx is releasing several new Watson products embedded with foundation models and generative AI for code, digital labor, AIOps, security, and sustainability. IBM Consulting has also announced the establishment of a Center of Excellence for generative AI, with over 1,000 AI experts ready to assist in client business transformation with enterprise-grade AI.

IBM Chairman and CEO, Arvind Krishna, noted that the development of foundation models has made AI for businesses more robust than ever before, and IBM Watsonx has been created to satisfy the demands of companies. Clients will now have access to the necessary infrastructure, consulting expertise, technology and toolset to fine-tune and adapt available AI models or build their own to deploy at scale in a trustworthy and open environment for business success. The Watsonx platform is made up of three product sets designed to tackle these issues: Watsonx.ai, a next-generation enterprise studio; Watsonx.data, an open lakehouse architecture-based data store; and Watsonx.governance, an AI governance toolkit to bring AI into the hands of businesses. The products are expected to be generally available in July 2023.
