Today, I want to share a fascinating journey – a story about innovation, growth, and a relentless pursuit of sustainability. As IBM’s Sustainability Software Sales Specialist in Israel, I'm privileged to be a part of this journey with Envizi, a leading name in sustainability and energy management software.
The Early Days
Let’s rewind to 2004. The core technology behind Envizi was initially crafted for the utility industry, primarily for data management and bill calculation. It was an era of smart meters, and the need to handle massive data influx was crucial. This technology wasn't just about data capture; it integrated seamlessly with tariff engines, revolutionizing electricity bill calculations.
Expansion and Recognition
Fast forward to 2008, and there's a pivotal shift in focus. The company, then known as CarbonSystems, expanded its horizon to encompass carbon and sustainability reporting. This transition wasn't just in name but in the essence of its operations. The Australian market, known for its keenness on sustainability, welcomed this change, leading to a rapidly growing customer base. By 2011, CarbonSystems was already making waves, being recognized as a leader in the carbon management software sector by Verdantix. Imagine, over 25 customers with revenues exceeding $1 billion – a testament to the platform’s robustness and reliability!
Global Reach
This success wasn't just confined to Australia. The technology's depth and versatility propelled the company into key global markets, including the USA, UK, and Asia. The platform’s ability to harness sustainability and energy data effectively helped clients enhance their operational performance, cut costs, and achieve positive environmental impacts.
Rebranding and Growth
The year 2013 marked another milestone. With a diverse and global customer base, and a solution offering that spans across sustainability, energy, and carbon management, the company rebranded to Envizi. This new name reflected its comprehensive approach to sustainability.

IBM Acquisition
The journey took an exciting turn on January 11th, 2022. IBM acquired Envizi, making it a cornerstone of its sustainability software suite. This acquisition isn’t just a business move; it’s a strategic alignment to bolster ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainability efforts. Envizi’s GHG engine, ESG disclosure tools, automated data capture, data management tools, and integration with Microsoft PowerBI are at the heart of this strategy. And there’s more on the horizon – enhancing these areas and integrating ESG into operational systems within IBM’s Sustainability suites (Maximo and Tririga).
