IBM calls it Bluemix Garage Method and the Japanese called it JIT

JIT was first developed and perfected by the Leaders in the manufacturing world.. Yes ...none other than Toyota ..JIT systems in other words are also called as LEAN production systems... "FAT" free systems as we call it :)

They implemented the JIT systems with the following goals in mind and were very successful -

  • Reduce inventories of raw materials & work in process that probably hoped to see the light at the end of the tunnel some day!
  • Avoid clogging the factory floors
  • Improve quality
  • Stick to committed deadlines
  • Improve communication and coordination with Suppliers

Toyota and their followers have seen dramatic improvements in manufacturing performance, all thanks to the use of JIT!

Well ..well …well !!…IBM Bluemix Garage Method now brings the lean approach for you in the software world .. It’s a perfect tool that helps you with your Digital transformation journey ..

Its been a tradition to create a laundry list of requirements …waiting to be prioritized …sometimes totally unrelated to market demands. Mostly aligned with your own whims and fancies …You may bring in a set of talented people in anticipation to deliver a big fat solution at the end of the year! Who knows if you will deliver it or not! Something else may end up taking a priority leaving the requirements to get stale there…

Market is changing every day, user expectations are changing every minute ..Why not cater to user needs on a frequent basis ?

These are our imperatives today in IT World-

  • Focus on the user and to deliver what your user(s) and market needs, Today!
  • Connect with your User
  • Deliver value every day and Don’t plan projects with long dev cycles, with an execution period of 8-10 months
  • Collaboration and Coordination in teams is key - DevOps!!
  • Fostering a culture to Innovate rapidly
  • “Speed” is the need of the hour while Stability is a Given!
  • “Fail fast” i.e  in days and not after months of time and effort

IBM Bluemix Garage method helps you achieve all of this !

This method combines industry’s best practices on Design Thinking, Lean Start up, Agile Development, DevOps, and Cloud to build and deliver innovative solutions

So whats common with JIT and Garage Method?

  • Always ensured sure that there is always a buyer for any item produced/solution delivered
  • Low upfront Investments on Inventories/ Start small, invest little, fail fast results in low $ loss [ a.k.a Capex vs Opex with Cloud as your Engine]
  • Commitment and Continued focus to deliver on time by Suppliers /DevOps teams

It’s all about Start Small, Deliver Quick, Leverage Cloud as your Engine .Deliver Right and Scale too!
Use IBM Bluemix garage method IBM Bluemix Garage Method if you have embarked on the Transformation Journey!
