IBM accelerates the use of AI in Organizations with the new Power9 processor

IBM today unveiled its latest generation Power Systems servers, which integrate the new POWER9 processor. Created specifically for complex computational workloads of AI (Artificial Intelligence), the new POWER9 systems can improve learning times of Deep Learning frameworks almost four times, allowing companies to develop AI applications more accurately and faster

The new Power Systems offer nearly four times higher performance than x86 for deep-learning Frameworks. IBM designed the POWER9 processor for AI workloads.

The new POWER9-based AC922 Power Systems are the first systems to integrate PCI-Express 4.0 technologies, the new NVIDIA NVlink 2.0 and OpenCAPI generation, whose combination can accelerate data transfer: it is calculated 9.5 times faster than x86 systems based on PCI-E 3.0.

The system was designed to perform demonstrable performance improvements, within the framework of known AI frameworks such as Chainer, TensorFlow, and Caffe, or accelerated databases such as Kinetica.

As a result, data scientists can quickly create applications ranging from deep learning insights into scientific research to real-time fraud detection and credit risk analysis.

Deep learning is a method of machine learning that extracts information from millions of data and processes, to identify and catalog their main aspects according to priority.

The Cognitive Era requires hardly imaginable processing power and unprecedented speed; it also requires an open ecosystem of innovative companies that provide technologies and tools.
