IB Insider #2 - February 2023

Welcome to the second edition of the #IBInsider, a monthly round-up of what's been happening at Imperial College Business School ! Whilst February is the shortest month in the year, it’s one of the busiest here.

Let’s start with the fact that it’s not every day that you have the?UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and Bill Gates?on your campus to launch a new cleantech coalition, but that’s the draw of Imperial. They launched?Cleantech for UK?and met three leading cleantech start-ups all created at Imperial. Carrying on the theme of innovation, February also welcomed the new cohort of the?Venture Catalyst Challenge?to the Imperial Enterprise Lab , all looking to win funding for their ventures.

In our community, we have been celebrating?Sustainability Week. We asked?current Climate Change, Management and Finance students?to?share their approach to sustainability in life and campus?and tapped?Ampliphi founder and alumnus Dominic Santschi ?to share his advice on?starting sustainable companies.

Our community is student-led and very active. The Spring term is a great time for students to pursue their interests outside of their programmes. For example, in the space of one week:

• The?Tech, Media and Telecommunications Club?hosted?Scaling Tech Start-ups from 1 to 100
• The?Healthcare Club?ran a session on?Perfecting Your Business Pitch
• The?Women in Business Club?had a session on?Women in Data Science
• The?Energy & Sustainability Club?collaborated with the?Africa & LatAm Business Clubs?on a?Renewable Energy panel event
• Our MBA students also ran a speaker series with their first?event on ESG with speakers from JP Morgan, LSE Group and Accenture.

Further afield from campus,?students on our MSc in International Management?were in Istanbul for their?Leadership in Action module?where they applied the skills and knowledge from their programme in a real-life setting, working with local companies on consulting projects.?Watch this video of last year’s module in Estonia?or read current student?Lindsay Larkin’s Istanbul experience. Our?EMBA students?were also in Germany for their EMBA residency, and our MBA students took part in the?Global Universities Challenge?at the World Government Summit (below).

To finish this Insider on a high,?a group of our students won the Southern European finals?of the Venture Capital Investment Competition, beating the likes of LBS, INSEAD, and Bocconi, and will travel in April to the USA for the Global finals. We wish them the best of luck!
