IAMI 28th ANNUAL TRAINING SEMINAR March 11 -14 in Norfolk, Virginia
James Cote
Marine Electric and Corrosion Control: Forensics, Consulting, Management & Surveys
The International Association of Marine Investigators 28th Annual Training Seminar will be Norfolk, Virginia this year during the days of March 11th through March 14th. Anyone hoping to grow and prosper in the field of marine investigations should consider attending this event.
IAMI has a unique membership combination of marine surveyors, marine insurance professionals, maritime attorneys, and law enforcement with active members from around the world giving it a truly international character. The networking and investigative resources available to IAMI marine investigators are quite remarkable.
This organization also has a very challenging Certified Marine Investigator training program for those who are quite serious about their profession. This is not one of those "work in the industry for a few years, read the manual and then study for the test" type of certification. The program of study and testing is rigorous and challenging that requires in depth knowledge of marine investigations.
The Certified Marine Investigator [(CMI) is also held to a high standard of integrity and professionalism. This designation is limited to those members with experience or training in a wide range of areas including boat and related thefts, adjusting boat related insurance claims, marine surveying, admiralty law as it relates to recreational boating, cause and origin of marine fires, marine insurance policy interpretation, accident reconstruction, hull construction and machinery.
It will be my honor to lead a class on Marine Electrical for the Marine Investigator (including some corrosion control) on Tuesday. I look forward to a lively and informative discussion. We will not get too far into the weeds with electrical theory, but should be able to increase the marine investigator's comfort level with electrics on boats.
I would also like to strongly recommend looking into attending the Fire Class by Glen Lawson and his staff. If I were not teaching the Marine Electrical class I would attend!
