IAAF Kids'Athletics & Right to Play

IAAF Kids'Athletics & Right to Play

Successful start of the 6-month Kids Athletics project with the development aid organisation Right to Play. "When children play, the world wins" is the motto of the organisation Right to Play and sport plays an important role in the development and education of children.

Right To Play is an international development aid organisation. Its goal is to support children affected by war, poverty and disease worldwide and to improve their quality of life with the help of play and sports programmes. The organisation is based in Toronto, Canada.

Within the framework of the ASICS-sponsored project "I move me", 30 sports teachers and coaches who offer sports programmes for approx. 500 Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian children will be trained in the next few months in athletics specifically for children aged 6-12.

In the first part, both theory and practice were taught in a 5-day workshop in Beirut and Tyr. The special feature of the Kids'Athletics programme initiated by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is that coaches and sports teachers can "invent" disciplines in running, jumping and throwing themselves and build their own sports equipment together with the young athletes using everyday objects!

In the next phase, the coaches will now be accompanied and supported in their implementation in a mentoring programme via a digital learning platform, before there is another workshop in Beirut at the end of the year.

The project will conclude with a "Kids'Athketics Festival" in January/February 2019, in which around 500 children will participate.
