“I was your client for 20 years. We should talk.”

“I was your client for 20 years. We should talk.”

Hi! You’re here because you’re a woman who runs a consulting business, and you want to learn how to make it more profitable, more stable, and more fulfilling. In our world, that means being able to get more of the right kind of clients into your business and get paid on your value, not your time, so you can build a business that supports your life, not the other way around.

If you’re like a lot of women consultants, you’re so good at the work you do, but the process of getting new clients feels a bit like unfamiliar territory. You’ve gotten this far with referrals or word of mouth, but you know you should be doing something more proactive (but you don’t want to be salesy). You also know that what got you here won’t get you to the next level in your business.

If that’s you, you’re in the right place.

Here you’ll learn strategies you can use to attract more of the right kinds of consulting clients and get paid more for your consulting contracts, in a way that doesn’t even feel like selling.

Along the way, you’ll discover that you aren’t “bad at sales.” (I promise.) You simply haven’t learned yet. But you can learn how, feel comfortable, and actually be good at it.

We’ll cover the three critical areas to master in order to get higher-paying consulting clients:

Attract (attracting more of the right clients and filling your client pipeline)

Guide (leading a sales process and keeping clients engaged)

Close (helping clients say yes and getting paid more than you ever thought you could).

I'm glad you're here! Let's dive in.

Consultants, it was incredible. She unmuted her Zoom and said, “I was your client for 20 years. We should talk.”

On a recent weekly sales coaching call inside The Academy, someone brought to the group a problem she was having with a client she was excited about.

It seemed like things were going well with the main contact and the decision-maker, but it had been a few weeks, and she was now having trouble getting the main contact to respond to her emails. So she came to the coaching call to get help on what to do next.

These are the types of questions we discuss in our weekly sales coaching calls, where Academy members get real-time sales coaching on the clients they’re talking to so they know how to navigate every sales situation.

After she explained the situation, a few of the women weighed in with thoughts and suggestions.?

And then, one of the Academy members unmuted her line and said, “I was your client for 20 years. We should talk.”

THIS right here is the power of being in a community of your PEERS.

I know, there are a lot of communities out there for women business owners.

But it’s another thing to be in a community of your people.

I don’t mean general groups of women entrepreneurs, hobbyists, or coaches who coach coaches – although all of those groups have a place.

And I don’t mean people who are selling online courses, or selling B2C, or just got out of life coach school five minutes ago.

I mean a community of women just like you who are building and scaling consultancies. Women who are facing similar challenges and looking for similar solutions.

Women who understand.?

Listen - we’re all doing this alone. It’s important to be around people. But it’s another level entirely when you’re around the right people.?

That’s why women appreciate the community in The Academy. Because the women in The Academy are their people. Your people.

If you’re facing a situation, someone else has faced it too. They’ve gotten through it. They’ll tell you how it was for them. What made them successful, and what pitfalls to avoid.

They’ve sold into that industry.?

They’ve written that proposal.

They’ve hit that obstacle.

They’ve lived that success.

They’ve HAD that client. Or they’ve BEEN that client.

How would it be to have at your back a community of awesome women who are generous with their time and expertise, and are ready to hold you accountable??

Because they’ve been there, they ARE there, and they GET you.?

Let me tell you, it’s pretty cool.

If you’d like to experience the community, we’re getting together an amazing group of women running independent consulting businesses, for our Virtual Summer Hangout, a purely social, no-pitch virtual hangout. You can meet other women “in the trenches” too, chat with my team and me, and just connect. It’s free. Want to join us??

Hi! I'm Leah Neaderthal. I'm a sales coach for women consultants and the founder of Smart Gets Paid .

When I left my corporate career and started my first consulting business, I learned three things very quickly:

1- It’s 1000x harder to sell your own stuff than to sell someone else’s.

2- Marketing is not selling.

3- I had no idea how to sell.

I needed clients, but I didn’t know how to actually get them, and I was terrified of coming off like a used car salesman. It made me doubt whether I was even cut out to run a business.

So I taught myself how to get new clients in a way that feels authentic, allows me to be myself, and that works consistently. I now teach these techniques to others. Because I know it’s possible to learn how to land clients, and actually feel comfortable doing it, once you know how.

Whenever you’re ready to start landing higher-paying clients, here are three ways I can help you.

It's the only podcast that can help you land higher-paying clients in your B2B consulting business. Listen on Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcast platform.

Send me a message here on LinkedIn with “Breakthrough” in the first line and I’ll get you the details.

One of my favorite definitions of community that I heard years ago is, “a space where you don’t even have to think about being you, you just are.” Thanks for posing this Q, Leah. Community is essential now more than ever!
