And I would walk 500 more
Back in January, the time of New Year resolutions, I wrote a blog https://www.maximiseit.co.uk/single-post/2018/01/15/And-I-would-walk-500-miles about walking every day and the positive impact it had made on my life. And more than 6 months later I am still doing it. To help me keep motivated I have committed to walking 1,000,000 steps for Diabetes UK during the month of July, August and September.
Now you may think for a regular walker that this an easy challenge (it’s the equivalent of 19 marathons), but typically I walk that amount every 4 months, so to do it in 3 means I need to up my game, so less days off and some longer walks to keep me on track.
Why did I chose this challenge? Well I had gestational diabetes whilst pregnant with my second child, so have experienced this illness first hand, and unfortunately may do so again as the gestational version is often a sign of a pre-disposition to type 2 diabetes. Also I have friends and family who live with diabetes day in day out and I am proud to raise money to fund research that could improve their quality of life. After 1 month of the challenge I am tracking to where I should be, having achieved over 300,000 steps to date. The hard part will be to keep going through August whilst on holiday with family, which typically involves me laying on a sun lounger and the occasional dip in the pool to cool down. So I reckon I may be having to make up lost ground during September, which may mean I have to resort to marching on the spot in front of the TV again.
Wish me luck

6 年Argh! Holidays have made an impact, I am way behind target at 603267 steps complete as at 5th September. This means I have to go 15870 per day for the rest of the month to reach my goal! That's approx. 7 miles per day!?

6 年Halfway through the 3 month challenge but not halfway through the number of steps! Only at 477644 :(
