I Would Never Do That! How Your Brain Circumvents Ethics & Compliance Efforts
Michael Bret Hood, CFE, MBA
Driving Boring Presentations to Extinction, TedX Speaker, Adjunct Professor Corporate Governance & Ethics at University of Virginia, Keynote and Top-Rated Speaker
We had an amazing session yesterday at the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics conference in Las Vegas with an interactive and thought-provoking dialogue about how people's brains do things without the person recognizing how and when it happened. This can be incredibly important for compliance and ethics programs in that your best efforts could actually spur employees into doing the very behaviors that you are trying to avoid. Human behavior is not always rational and if you do not take the steps needed to instill the proper culture in your organization, you may not be able to prevent a corporate scandal in the future.
Thank you to the SCCE organizers, especially the ones who work behind the scenes, in producing such a great conference. Last but not least, a big thank you to the people who attended the session. I hope you had fun, thought about things more deeply, and picked up a few new techniques that you can use to make your compliance and ethics programs even better.
