I won an Award but what did I learn?
I am pleased beyond belief to win the Middle East Markets Magazine Best Human Resource and Recruitment Consultancy 2018 Kingdom of Bahrain Award in the Middle East Markets Magazine GCC Enterprise Awards. https://www.mea-markets.com/2018-GCC-Enterprise-Awards-2018. To win such a prestigious award in my first year or so of business is certainly some vindication of the hard work put in and for facing the challenges that needed to be faced . That part , facing challenges, is a long way from over though with new challenges to face all the time.
So what have I learn't from the experience. The first lesson I have learnt is that you need to be flexible and pragmatic to survive in the modern labor market. In fact from my point of view, prior to being laid off the plan I was working on was to complete the Masters I was working on, then a complete a Doctorate and hopefully find a niche in academia and consult part-time. That plan was overtaken by events. So the lesson is that while it good to have hopes dreams and aspirations the reality of the world is that your circumstances can, due to circumstances beyond your control, change very quickly so you always need to have a Plan B and a Plan C.
The second major lesson is that the first period in the life of your business needs to be brand awareness. You need to live and breathe it. In that regard I am now pleased to say that I have a website that has been seen in over 70 countries
The third major lesson for me is persistence. You roll with punches and come up smiling regardless of the circumstances. This was best expressed by former US President Calvin Coolidge when he said
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent"
I would like to thank my family again for their support and also say that while things are making progress there is still a long way to go. This award provides some acknowledgement on direction and with persistence I will get back to where I was and far beyond that
The journey and battle continues.
