I welcome Job Stats showing Norwich is ahead of the country

I welcome statistics released today for February 2019 that show that Norwich North is ahead of the country in terms of unemployment.

The figures from the Office of National statistics show that the unemployment rate for Norwich North is just 1,085, which represents 2.4% of the economically active population[1]; whilst the equivalent UK claimant rate stands at 3.3%.

Statistics have also shown that employment is at a record high, and wages are rising at their fastest pace in a decade, meaning more people than ever before have the security of a regular pay packet.

The Government are helping people into work by reforming welfare so work always pays, while backing businesses to create more, better paying jobs across the whole country through the modern Industrial Strategy.

Nationally, the average weekly earnings for employees increased by 3.4% compared with this time last year, and that employment overall is at a record high of 32.71 million, which is an increase of 473,000 over the last year.

Youth unemployment nationally is also down, with 439,000 fewer young people out of work since 2010. Statistics also show that there are almost 1 million more disabled people in work since 2013 as the Government has made efforts to break down barriers to people with disabilities in finding work.

Bringing good quality jobs to Norwich is one of my key priorities; these figures show that Norwich is moving in the right direction across all ages categories. I particularly welcome the statistics showing that number of young unemployed people and those with disabilities have fallen compared to this time last year. As Founder and Chair of the Norwich for Jobs project, it is important to me to see that young people, especially those who face additional barriers to work, are not left behind. Every person in employment is an individual, with a story of their own, and I would encourage local employers to rise to the challenge of seeing if they can help change a life through offering someone a job.

[1] The economically active population are those aged between 16-64 years.

It's all good and well hearing about job stats etc, for me Mrs smith could you explain why Norfolks mental health sevices are so bad. Also how does the government prepose to tell all that recieve social care will have to contribute to thier costs out of benefits. To me it seems as if the goverment decision makers have not put thier own feer on the ground to see what a mess the social care for middle aged men is kindly an imcompetent service and the council complete highway robbers as they just help themselves to my bank account for care i have not recieved. I am a man who was brought up by social workers most decent people a few monsters who no doubt changed my path in life to being stuck in a terrible system. I have many times asked fot the help i believe the goverment local council should provide, after nigh on 40yts of self loathing distrust even hatred towards authoritive figures all caused by pedophiles that were in your ranks. I ask you this do survivors of this where should i seek the helpbi need. This help ive asked for on advice of my psychiatrist i am priced and psychologically bullied out of because the system does not work. I expect no answer from you i know your not strong enough to challenge the government.

Great to see, long may it continue
