I wasn't always a good leader

That's the truth.
In fact, at first, I was really bad.
My first job out of undergrad I became a supervisor.
And while I cared about my team, and wanted them to be successful, I wasn't ready to be the full leader that they needed me to be.
I was immature, struggled with boundaries, and wasn't focused enough on their future growth.
But, leadership can be learned. Leadership evolves. And your journey as a leader continues.
If you care enough to get better, you can get better. Every day I learn and get better.
How?

I think a huge part of "learning about yourself" is learning how to lower the defense mechanisms that so many of us have to constructive feedback. While the mechanism works to protect us and our egos, it also prevents us from getting curious about how we, as managers, show up, how others see us, and blindspots we may have to our own actions and impacts.
