I’m not trying to change you. I really reject the hyper-partisanship though. It’s holding us back!!

I know people naturally gravitate towards those of like mind. I grew up with modest means as the son of a union meat cutter. I like unions. Everything I have is the result of a Marine Corps Rotc scholarship and hard work.

I know that a hand up isn’t a handout. I’ve represented working people my whole career. I’ve grown multiple businesses, again through hard work.

I take care of pennies and let dollars take care of themselves. I respect diversity. I’ve fought discrimination in the courts. I love the dynamic diversity of HOUSTON. I’ve grown my businesses here and raised my kids here.

Along the way, I’ve supported politicians on both sides of the spectrum.

Of course, the funny thing is that my opponents want to label me based on how they think it might help them. They see our momentum. They see our message resonating!!

In this election, I’m asking you to look at the big picture. Policing and safety, street maintenance, flooding, paying firefighters, homelessness, stray animals, fixing the permitting process, changing the way we handle solid waste—these are issues of competence.

Ending the city contracts given to the same, usual suspects who donate money to the mayor, ending deviations in contracts to enrich the mayor’s colleagues or lobbyists is imperative, ending the exorbitant travel paid by donors is critical.

Making the city work for everyone is what I’m about. These are not partisan issues. I’m not a politician like all the others. I’m a proud veteran. My agenda is only making Houston better. I’m financing this effort myself. We are on a roll. I love me some Houston! Join us!!

So, how do we competently resolve flooding issues when we get 20, 30, 40, or a Harvey 54 inches of rain event? As the climate changes, the storms have become more and more intense in recent years. Flooding has been an issue for decades, and beyond all improvements and beyond all mayors. As The Greater Houston Area continues to grow and develop where once there was vegetation and soil, what is the competent solution you as mayor will provide us with? There will be more storms. There’s one developing (60% chance) in the Gulf at this moment, and presumed heading our way. How will we defeat Mother Nature? It will be a first. She is undefeated with a History - 0 record. By the way... “Thank you for your service Mr. Buzbee.”

Difference in opinion does not mean we have to argue and distance ourselves, it means that we should find a common ground to work with - thanks Tony - Go Buzbee!
