I Want to be in Sales!
Tara Kinney, CEO of Atomic Revenue once told me that if marketing and sales go to a trade show they will have very different perspectives.
Marketing can collect 5k emails, book over 100 appointments and hand out all their promotional items and see it as a great event!
Sales can go in and filter through the 5k emails to find 6 good leads, the appointments down to 4 solid meetings and the cost of the promotional items as a total loss and see the event as a complete waste of time.
I love this analogy and I think of it often when people come to me with a marketing degree or major emphasis on perfect branding. Although stream line consistent branding plays a role.
You want to spend your effort on sales, you can't discover what your buyers needs are if you aren't out in the field working. You can't tweak your product if no on has ever bought it.
If you don't have sales you aren't in business.
