In Corona virus days, we work from home and yet our universe continues to function. But is something... one thing that can still bring the world down to a standstill if not taken care of in timely manner.
Can you guess what it is?
It is .......
The communication!!!
During the regular office days, focus primarily was on the face-to-face communication. I have seen few marvellous people doing that so efficiently, but once f-t-f communication is gone, it throws up many challenges, especially:
- How to talk without using eyes and facial muscles and still motivate people?
- How to find out if a person is sad or happy in absence of that fleeting view?
- How to keep the flock together without any fences anymore?
- How to exchange knowledge in the absence of "Bro, one second over here please"?
In short " How to prevent dysfunction, over an extended period of time?"
The answer is simple, communication, communication and more communication and that's not it.... We need more
Efficient and precise communication
But how do we do it?
- Read more and learn more. No one is watching your screen from behind anymore, so it's easier now!
- Learn to deliver a presentation through a well made video, rather than a live talk. Use the awesome tools for screen capture and video editing. You can always pause your video and make a point more clearer.
- Leaders need more one-on-one talks than mass communication.... Why? Simply cause we are not Mahatma Gandhi.... Or Not yet!
- Emphasise more on short L&Ds than those big long ones as L&D has to be "more" often than before, collective than before, and more incentivized than before.
Terrible news is, despite all the medical advancements over the years, we still are mostly helpless against the every next virus that we will come across in the future.
So, we have to make digital communication a habit and not an option anymore.
