You know that feeling when you craft the perfect LinkedIn post, hit publish...and then it just sits there, barely getting any traction? No likes, no comments, no engagement whatsoever. It's like you threw a party but nobody showed up.
Talk about a total buzzkill.
We've all been there - agonising over finding the right words and angle for our posts, only to have them fall completely flat. It can make you want to give up on LinkedIn altogether. Why bother putting yourself out there if no one is paying attention anyway?
But don't throw in the towel just yet! Creating content that captures interest and sparks conversation on LinkedIn is an art, but it's one you can master with the right mindset and tactics.
The first step? Corporate jargon and humble-brag posts just aren't going to cut it anymore. Those might have worked back in the day, but nowadays our feeds are saturated with that stuff. To stand out from the noise, you've got to bring your personality to your posts (Whilst remaining professional).
Think about it this way: when you're scrolling through your feed, what's more likely to make you stop in your tracks? A listicle about "5 Ways to Be a Better Leader"? Or is it a post that grabs you with a bold statement, an intriguing story, or a fresh perspective you haven't heard before?
My money is on the latter. As humans, we're drawn to storytelling and content that feels authentic and relatable. We want to feel seen, heard, and emotionally invested in what we're reading.
That's why the best LinkedIn posts are the ones that tap into common experiences, struggles, or truths we can all connect with on a deeper level. They make us think, "I've been there!" or "I know how that feels!"
For example, if you want to write a post about dealing with imposter syndrome and self-doubt, you could give generic advice about "staying confident" and "believing in yourself." Alternatively, you could open with a vulnerable story about a time you were crippled by insecurity and feelings of being a fraud...but you powered through it anyway.
The storytelling approach just immediately hooks you in more. You'll have people leaning in and agreeing before they even get to the actual advice part of your post.

LinkedIn is an educational platform but it is NOT for preaching. Keep your conversations authentic like you're talking with a friend over drinks rather than lecturing to a room full of University Graduates.
Personal stories work great on LinkedIn, Don't be afraid to show a bit of personality and humour too. People are way more likely to leave a comment or reaction on a post that pulls them into the experience.
I'm not saying it's easy to find that sweet spot between professionalism and letting your authentic voice shine through. But when you nail it, that's when the real magic happens. That's when your posts start to truly resonate.
I am always promoting authenticity on this platform, even regarding our professional content and branding. Share the ups and downs of your journey, not just the polished, highlight reel version. Be unapologetically you!
