I used to skip Breakfast...

Yes, I used to rush around in the morning, very often realising that there was just not enough time to have a breakfast.

Is it really so bad to start your day without food? There is no one solution for all, especially if you're into intermittent fasting...

For me, having tested various strategies, eating protein in the morning works best.

Why?

I have notices several benefits, this could also be because I started getting up slightly earlier, to allow for a morning routine without getting all stressed and rushing around...

What I have noticed since I have been making an effort with a morning protein:

1. Sustained Energy Levels:

Protein-rich foods provide a steady release of energy, keeping me feeling fuller for longer. Unlike sugary breakfast options that lead to energy crashes, protein helps stabilize blood sugar levels, preventing those mid-morning slumps.

Incorporating sources like eggs, Greek yoghurt, nuts, oats or lean meats into my breakfast sets the stage for a productive day.

2. Enhanced Mental Focus:

A protein-packed breakfast not only fuels my body but also primes my brain for optimal performance. Research suggests that consuming protein in the morning can improve cognitive function, memory, and attention span.

3. Muscle Repair and Growth:

Protein is essential for repairing and building muscle tissue, making it particularly beneficial for my active lifestyle.

By consuming protein at breakfast, I'm jumpstarting the muscle repair process after overnight fasting, aiding in recovery and supporting overall muscle health.

4. Appetite Regulation:

Starting my day with a protein-rich breakfast helps me curb cravings and prevent overeating later in the day.

Protein has been shown to promote feelings of fullness and satiety, reducing the likelihood of reaching for unhealthy snacks.

By keeping hunger at bay, protein breakfasts support weight management goals, if that's what you're focusing on.

5. Long-Term Health Benefits:

Studies have linked higher protein intake to improved metabolic health, reduced risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and better weight management outcomes.

I'm always up for any illness prevention strategies. It's my choice to do what I can, especially in the current state of NHS and the fact that GP's really don't have time to spend with us and talk through our lifestyle and analyse our diet.

For me, breakfast truly sets the tone for the day ahead.

If I really don't have time, I make a protein smoothie.
