I Used to Hate Facial Hair...
…but, it's starting to grow on me.
This article in Psychology Today could explain why.
Apparently, a beard on a man not only conveys a commanding presence, but he is also perceived to be more helpful, friendly, and accepting than clean-shaven men.
Here is another one: tall men are regarded as being smarter or stronger than short men. Slap a giant, expensive-looking watch on their wrist and they are perceived to be successful and powerful too.
Before you go and grow a beard and start wearing a clock around your wrist, you should understand how visual appearance affects people's perception and decision-making. It is the basis of my book, Five Ways Your Design Can Be More Seductive.
In short, people are extremely vulnerable to being influenced by visual stimuli. It gives them the clues they need to assess quality, reliability, likeability, and more. Studies show when something looks nice, people assume it also works well. They equate it with success.

When trying to attract your ideal clients, the link between design (presentation) and content (message) is an important one that many marketers miss.
If your marketing is highly polished but lacks a compelling message, it simply gets discarded.
If it looks homegrown, it can erode trust.
