I used ChatGPT today. It’s not Google, but very helpful!!

It’s like having a discussion with your very knowledgeable personal assistant. ChatGPT will give you information in long coherent paragraphs, not website links like google. The system keeps you in the chat on the OpenAI platform. This style comes with its benefits and limitations.

It’s truly a very intelligent Chatbot hence the name ChatGPT. GPT here means “Generative Pre-training Transformer”. The GPT model is a deep learning model that is pre-trained on a large dataset of text and then fine-tuned for specific tasks. The ChatGPT project is currently in training mode, funded by Microsoft with USD 10bn investment.

Since its release (in November 2022) ChatGPT has become an internet phenomenon, even in initial five days, it crossed 1 million users. The AI is constantly being improved by humans (users and trainers). After a conversation with ChatGPT AI, humans rate the response which helps train the AI and further improve its quality.

Uses of AI assistant

I call it “free to use AI for public”, One of very creative and helpful use of this AI is to automatically reply your emails in your inbox. Few users tried it to improve their email linguistic capability and efficiency. See an example below:

Example

Original text (short and having grammatical errors)

Sally I am start's work at yours Monday, from Dave

ChatGPT version (Auto corrected)

Dear Sally, I hope this email finds you well I'm writing to let you know that I will be starting work with you on Monday I'm really looking forward to getting started if you have any questions or need any help with anything please don't hesitate to get in touch best wishes

Dave

Certainly, an improvement in quality and efficiency.

Other uses

  • One of obvious uses of ChatGPT is mental health support. People are increasingly using it to talk to ChatGPT as a mental health support provider to help them through difficult times
  • People also used it as a robot lawyer to get help and legal advice
  • A bountiful number of reports from the internet, is of people using chat GPT to cheat on exams e.g. using it to write code for their computer science assignments in just minutes. ChatGPT is very good at writing codes and to improve the existing code i.e. remove bugs and errors
  • A very interesting use found is “match making”. Using ChatGPT to have automated conversation with potential matches
  • Build better chat bots
  • Keeping personal social media presence alive and active (Automated manner)
  • Chat GPT can also be used to write articles and blogs, much like this one ??

My Experience

Today, I used chatGPT to help me build a personal project related to architecture and construction. I did get valuable information within the confines of a chat environment, as an insightful adviser.

Disclaimer:

Factual inaccuracies and system’s technical level (capacity) issues are definitely noted at the moment. For example in my case, I have struggled with system for capacity, system was not available for use 50% of times due to overload. This technical limitation is due to the fact that an AI response requires lot more computing power than simple Google search. Other users have noted factual in accuracies based on incorrect data available on the internet on the topic.

With this in mind, we all need to note that it’s a project is in beta state for now. More we use it more accurate it will become. I recommend all to try ChatGPT. Simply go to the site and register with your email and phone number.

Future

ChatGPT is considered just the tip of the iceberg for AI. As just two years ago it was translation professionals who have been impacted (with AI taking over) and now we've seen “professional artists” panic as “AI generated Art” takes away potential clients and generally lowers the market value of art by increasing supply. “DALL·E 2” is a new AI system that can create realistic images and art from computer generated code (AI). Next white-collar jobs will start to feel the pressure as these AI systems will become standard professional assistants in various jobs.

Concluding thoughts I have as an Auditor

I have question in my mind, Will AI and ChatGPT take away an auditor’s role as well by automating audits? Or AI will help us do audits in more efficient way e.g. by automating writing of better, stronger and sharper Audit memos (Audit Observations). If so, it can help us focus on our core task of conducting better risk assessments.

I am currently using ChatGPT and intend to share more information based on my usage experience in future. Keep watching this thread!
