I Tried Notion, and I'm Officially Hooked

A week ago I posted a poll, asking my LinkedIn community who used Notion, who didn't and who did but wasn't into it. Here were the results:

Well, I did it. I tried Notion, and I absolutely loved it. So much so that I stayed up until 2AM organizing boards, because as a Type A person, THIS is my thing. Not only is Notion aesthetically pleasing, it's easy to use and is now making my life easier to navigate both in and out of work.

Here are my initial thoughts:?

? It feels like Airtable, Basecamp, Trello, Pinterest Boards, Collections, and Box Notes combined into one.

? Contrary to my initial reaction, you can make your Notion as detailed or as simplified as you’d like.

? I was able to figure out Notion without having to Google anything or watch taxing tutorial videos thanks to their template feature.

? Their templates range by department and interests, whether you’re a marketer, a student, or HR rep, and more - Notion has a template for you.

? Their templates are pre-filled, making it easy for you to visualize how you could use it.

? You can even use Notion as an online portfolio, or with your team if you’d like, though I’m choosing to use it for my own personal organization management.

? You can integrate JIRA, GitHub, Google Drive, Slack and more!

Here’s how I’m using it:?

?? I decided not to use anyones templates (except Notions) to figure it out on my own and get acclimated to their platform.

?? I’ve created Hubs, think of this as main pages for all of my high level topics. Some examples: IBM Hub, MillieMakes Hub, Personal Content Hub?

?? When I open a hub, there are shortcuts, these shortcuts can take me to separate pages I’ve created that fall under those topics. These range from inspiration boards, to habit trackers, to-do lists, and notes, where I list out ideas and strategy for each project I’m working on.

?? I have a personal and work to-do list, and place each under their own hubs.

?? It’s really helpful with scheduling, and helping me stay on track. There are even mock examples for scheduling, so it helps you to figure out how you can use it as it applies to you and your work/lifestyle.

?? I have a habit tracker for wellness: Daily water intake, diet, protein intake, workouts, vitamin intake, and sleep. This helps me to visualize how consistently I’m staying healthy & keeping my body physically prepped to do my best work.

?? When you make notes, you can export them into a PDF to share with others, or link people to it.

Here’s how I want to use it in the future:

? Any sort of planning, for example for my 2022 birthday trip

? Mood boards for apartment decorating

? Content planning for LinkedIn?

Here’s the thing, even if you aren’t Type A like me, I think Notion can help you organize your life. Prior to Notion I was using 100 different apps to keep track of things. Notion has given me a perfect way to keep everything in one place, and easy to find. Shoutout to the “quick find” search feature too. ?? So what do you think, are you going to give it a try? LMK your thoughts!
