I TOLD HIM SO MANY TIMES, BUT HE JUST WON'T LISTEN!

How many times do we hear people say that they've told someone to do something, but they don't 'listen'?

Of course, they hear, but they don't listen?

Call it semantics, but we often find people making a differentiation between 'hearing' and 'listening'.

Interestingly, the Qur'an also instructs us to not be like those who say 'we hear' but in fact are not listening.

I often talk about how sometimes, people don't listen to understand but only listen to respond.

Many a times, we also hear people say 'yeah, I know, I know... ' following any advice they may be offered.

The question therefore arises, if we're not 'listening', what have we actually heard?

Similarly, does a relationship, therefore, exist between knowledge and 'knowing'? ??

I also agree that to be a good listener you also need to be quiet to hear , giving a person time to speak without saying anything, and your body language also plays a huge role, attention gives value , respect and makes the person feel important enough for your time !

Sometimes its not the person but a combination of how YOU are yourself feeling at the time and who the other person is. If you are feeling positive energised and value the person talking you will give them quality time and attention but if you are not feeling well, tired , got things on your mind , stressed then the other person does not hold your attention 100% as they should. We also react differently to the environment we are in, quiet place you'll listen more, noisy busy areas take your attention away from the person and what is being said ! However everyone reacts in different ways.

There is a lag time between hearing and understanding. This lag time varies from one individual to another. The lag time can be a few seconds to up to a minute, and this is where the trouble begins. It’s during this lag time that we drift off and start listening to ourselves and not to the person speaking to us. This is when we lose concentration and comprehension. Think about it, the word listen and the word silent are spelled with the same letters. In order to be a good listener, we first need to learn how to be silent Majid. That includes, not thinking about how you’re going to reply when another person is talking. A great share - Thankyou.

Knowledge is power but t depends on how you use it. In order to understand something in depth, you need to think critically ask many question such as why, what, how? Iblis was also most knowledgeable but his pride let him down and he disobeyed. It depends on one's mindset and actions to truly benefit from knowledge. Just knowing something is not enough and this sura is a perfect example of how some people pretend or maybe unconsciously think they are listeining but in reality they are far from listening.
