I thought I was on track.

I thought I was on track.

I'm a disciplined guy. I've listened to my recorded morning mantras and affirmations every morning since August 7th of 2014.

I've recorded every bite of food I've taken for 6.74 years....to the calorie.

I've averaged 350 workouts a year for nearly 9 years.

I'm on track for 63,000 pushups this year.

When I worked in downtown Nashville prior to the pandemic, I was at the gym at 4:00 am so I could be in the office by 6:30 to avoid Nashville traffic.

I'm the CEO of a growing startup and have been willing to sacrifice and live under a f'..n bridge if that's what it takes to survive and build my company.

Then I started working with Angus Nelson ? Leadership Consultant

I have known Angus for years. I pride myself on recognizing the man he is early on as he began part of his life in Nashville. I took part in some of the early coaching models he was developing.

I'd been involved in other coaching models prior to Angus over the years. I was a five year veteran of Sandler Sales training. I owned that material.

I have been mentored by some of the best business minds in Nashville, TN.

None have delivered transformation like Angus.

How so might you ask? Well, the student, "me", was ready for the teacher.

I went to a morning session Angus conducted here in Nashville a few months ago.

We were doing an exercise associated with future casting our next few months. Our end of year result, so to speak.

After using the Ink and Volt planning tool for 6 straight years now, I always know approximately where I am relative to the year's plan, the monthly plan, the weekly plan, and the daily activities necessary to deliver on all of it.

In this session, I discovered that about 1/2 of my annual plan/goal was accomplished by the end of March.

This isn't a victory people. This is a cry for help. It means my plan was weak. It means I didn't expect enough from myself.

Another discovery? My standards weren't high enough. I know I listed all that stuff above. Who cares. If it's not moving the needle on the life I really want, it hardly counts.

So what did I do?

I took part in Angus's executive coaching program . Even the greats need and utilize coaches and mentors. I crave accountability and my questions for Angus surrounded the following.

  1. I already run a tightly disciplined life. Will your program help me become the CEO I need to be to scale my company faster?
  2. Will your participating members be the people that raise my standards?
  3. Will your program help me tweak my discipline sufficiently to move the needle in my results and performance?
  4. Will I end up a better version of myself?

I can attest after three and a half months; transformation is happening.

  1. I am working more effectively.
  2. I have more confidence. For the right reasons. It's not hubris.
  3. I am more accountable to myself.
  4. I have rewritten my morning mantras and affirmations three times, and begun to adjust what I thought were already wonderfully helpful self beliefs.

I didn't know how much work I have yet to do. The rewiring has been vital.

It's interesting. I'm a huge aviation fan. Analogies can be made with anything I suppose. When the Navy upgraded requirements that took the already fabulous F-18 Hornet and required the Super Hornet, I thought damn, that's amazing.

When I consider the years I've done P90X, Insanity, and Yoga, and then move into a new yoga routine with a new instructor and my body aches and it kicks my ass, it's because different poses require different approaches and muscles.

Growth never stops.

I'm endorsing Angus Nelson ? Leadership Consultant , and Timothy McLagan in case you've not figured that out.

On the business front, yes, we've grown since my start with Angus. Candidly, that's cool but that is not what it is about.

The continued growth of my company will be a by product of MY GROWTH.

However, if you have to justify it that way so be it.

My challenge to you is this. Take a call with Angus. He and Timm have no knowledge of my having written this at the time of publication. If you're truly serious about your life, dealing with your shit, and moving to a higher plain, you owe it to yourself to make the move, deal with your scripting, your mindset, your heart, and push through it all.

In the meantime, connect with me if you wish. I'm happy to share more details.

Sherman, thanks for sharing!
