Meet Diana Pauly from our Sustainability Team and learn more about the recently published idealo sustainability report.
What is your name and what do you do at idealo??
I'm Diana and I have been with idealo for a year, leading the sustainability team.?
What goal and what topics are you working on??
We, as the sustainability team, try to anchor the topic of sustainability throughout idealo. In doing so, we have our own projects that we implement. This includes, for example, calculating the carbon footprint and buying CO2 emission certificates to make idealo climate neutral. We also operate as an internal consultancy and provide advice to colleagues from all departments, and thus we implement projects together with other departments. An example is the shipping of goods from idealo’s direct purchase which is now climate neutral.?
Your team recently published the first idealo sustainability report. What is included in a sustainability report and why is it relevant for a company??
A sustainability report talks about a company’s overarching strategy, which projects have been working on and what has been achieved in recent years. When preparing the report, a materiality analysis is carried out to see which topics are most relevant for our business. The report sets out what drives us forward as a company in terms of sustainability and what is important to our stakeholders, such as our employees and users. The report also discusses what we are already doing well and where there are areas of improvement. One advantage of a sustainability report is that it makes us comparable with other companies. We report according to an internationally valid standard and other companies do the same when preparing their sustainability reports. This allows employees and users to form their own opinions about a company. ??
What do you wish would happen with the sustainability report????
I would like everyone at idealo to read the report, discuss it and give us feedback so we can exchange ideas. I also hope that employees from Axel Springer will read it and that there will be an exchange with other subsidiaries so that we can learn from each other and maybe even inspire other subsidiaries to write a report. Because the more transparently you engage with sustainability, the better.?

What drew you to your current position at idealo????
I have been working in the field of sustainability for a while. I come from a large company where I learned the whole thing hands-on. The company was already well positioned regarding sustainability, so after a while I felt like my work didn’t have as big of an impact there as it could have somewhere else. That's why I wanted to bring my experience to?a smaller company where I could introduce my knowledge and together create a path to more sustainability. The position at idealo spoke to me because it was a team lead position and combined everything I had already done, but in a new context. I felt confident with the position, but I also knew that I would learn a lot of new things as I didn't come from an eCommerce background.?
Why is sustainability important to you personally????
I believe that this is also related to my political point of view. When I understood that environmental disasters that will happen in the Global South will be much worse there than here in Europe, and that social and environmental problems are generally very intertwined, I became really involved with sustainability personally. I think it's great that we live the triad of sustainability at idealo: People, Planet, Profit - and look at the issue holistically. I do the same in my private life. I think it's essential to be aware that your actions have an impact, be it in sustainability, social justice or other politics.???
What were your professional highlights last year????
The preparation of the sustainability report is definitely my highlight. It was a mammoth task and took a lot of energy from our team and others involved. I look back on it with great pride. It was also amazing?to set up the sustainability team the way it is now and work out a team strategy. And beyond that, it was a pleasure to get to know many idealos, exchange ideas, and even make some friends. ?
Thank you, Diana!
