No "I" in Teamwork

No "I" in Teamwork

Over the years, I’ve learned that in my line of work, the automotive industry, my success is an equation of my own work + working with people. My work is building myself, my business and my brand. Working with others is with my staff and my clients. However, without the latter, the former is pointless. However, over time, the line that separates both gets more difficult to see. Let me explain why.

Let me be clear that working on my own, alone, is a challenge that is truly indescribable. Because of that, I wonder if I’m harder to work with than others. Here’s why:
1. I set my expectations very high. Sometimes so high that they can be regarded as unrealistic.
2. It’s easier for me to simply execute, than to allow me to help others execute. But in that process, I begin to trust myself, my intuitions & those who execute like me.
3. I’m slowly starting to put “me” first. What I mean is my needs, wants and desires…because I’m important. However, it’s easy for me to sacrifice myself for others.

Let’s face it: no matter what, some will either help you & support you in self improvement. Others…well, they’ll distract you, talk you down, question you and make you question yourself!

The key is to understand who are your pillars & links of support, encouragement, positive attitude, motivation & assistance. They are the ones that are patient with you and your thoughts, plans, tasks & even your words.

Sometimes working on your own becomes much more difficult than working with others. Working with others allows you to leverage thoughts, creativity, completing tasks & projects & also makes everything much more fun. Now, there are times when working alone is the only best option. Working on your own also allows you to find peace, tranquility, self-reflection in a place of quietness, calmness & solitude. It is at these times, where your thoughts and ideas are at its highest. There are no factors of influence, opinions or judgements.

When you take both situations of being alone and working versus working with others allows you to find that happy balance. Working on your own draws out inner passion, motivation, creativity and exudes your own branding. When working with others, you are able leverage further thoughts, ideas, collaboration & ability to listen to a different point of view.

Hence, taking both of these situations propels mutual benefit. Each situation feeds the each other. It’s almost like having the ability of merging individuality & team synergy. Working on your own allows others thoughts , words, opinions and success factors guide you in your own path.

That’s why I say that our work, no matter what it is, allows us to connect with our internal thoughts, creativity and perspectives of the world and people around us.

So i ask you: How are you able to work on your own? How do you transfer this to working with others? How do you leverage both situations so they feed each other in a successful way?
