I Was Taught How To Spell Credit, But Not Anything About It

Hey there everyone – Chris Burkett here with The Referral Kings with a quick rant!

There have been several points in my life where I’ve come to the conclusion that I should have learned about credit in school, but of course wasn’t. Throughout my life, my credit profile has gone up and down, sometimes for no apparent reason whatsoever, but the reality is… the info is out there, most just have no idea about any of it!

There is a whole world of information on the subject of credit repair and boosting your credit, but yet, the majority of Americans have NO CLUE about any of it. Why? We’re not taught about it in school! Crazy, right? I was taught how to spell C-R-E-D-I-T, but not taught anything about it! Why not??

It’s crazy to think about all of the ways credit plays a part in our lives as we leave our school days and progress into adulthood - We’re not taught how to actually improve our scores, what a credit score even means, what it will do for us, etc. THAT’S INSANE! Think about all of the reasons we need to think about our credit scores – Credit cards, buying or even leasing vehicles, buying homes, heck – Even getting a cell phone plan! So, why aren’t we taught ANYTHING about this in school? Ok, rant off.

Long story short – The information is out there, but we have to find it, and educate ourselves. BUT… here’s what I’ve realized. For ANY of us in any kinds of financial service careers, even insurance, since credit comes into play, the more we educate ourselves on the subject the more we can coach our customers and prospects on what they can do to help their situation.

Having that conversation can set us apart from EVERY other professional in our industry, and can make us VERY referable. Why? It makes us different, it makes us stand out, and it helps earn trust.
