I Strive

I compromise my values every day 

not through attention; 

rather, unintentional acts 

in haste, 

in habits, 

in distraction. 

Yet, I strive

for vigilance,

a kind observation, 

approaching with a light foot 

and outstretched hand

against the serpentine sting 

of hypocrisy. 

I strive to know myself 

apart from opinion or advice, 

offering only what I uniquely may 

through compassion, 

reverence, 

and the revealing of beauty.
