I still face job rejections, after investing in a top MBA degree! #3

Do you think this is even possible?

To have an MBA from a top school, and the jobs you have the skills for, still reject you?

Or maybe in your case it is not even an MBA, maybe it is a certification, or an international degree, which you once heard is the answer to your employability frustration.

You paid a lot of money to get that “international degree” or "certification" or even get on that “executive program” and afterwards it is same story of back-to-back rejections.

Hmm... Reminds me of one of my clients - Temitayo Samson-Grace

Her first message to me here on LinkedIn reads below:

Temi is no doubt a super star and a top performer… she has an MBA from undoubtedly one of the best business schools in Africa - Lagos Business School.

She has the skills any employer will die to have and a credible network too, which she tried leveraging at some point. But it was same story of consistent rejections.

As she rightfully identified in her pitch to me, she seemed to have everything paper-wise working for her, but she was not so great at showcasing her super powers to hiring managers thus she experienced back to back rejections, which started affecting her self-esteem (like everyone who has ever faced similar rejections).

Temi decided to join my Dream Job Group Coaching Program in March 2021.

And within three (3) months Temi landed two job offers, and finally accepted one in the Tech Media space, which was well aligned with her preferred growth path.

If your story is similar to Temi’s?and you want the kind of results she achieved, I would be sharing three (3) things you can start doing immediately, to produce similar results for yourself. Oh mind you, these perspectives are not taught in many MBA programs :)

  1. When building your marketing tools (Resume, LinkedIn profile, Cover letter, Bio) ensure you are building it in ways that projects you are ready for your next level, not just recording or showing your primary tasks in your current or past roles: This was a game changer learning for Temi, as she was solely projecting her experience on the basis of her past and current role, and not showcasing readiness for her next level. However, after she implemented what I taught in my Dream Job Group Coaching program, she said her call-back rate for interviews changed in a positively dramatic way.
  2. You should start having informational interviews with people sitting on the kind of roles you want to sit on: The system of leveraging informational interviews which I teach in my group coaching program, helped Temi in networking more effortlessly and armed her with insider information on the demands for her next level (industry and role). It enabled her to also stop guessing at interviews what they wanted from her skills, as it opened her eyes to know which of her skills were in high demand in the new sector she was vying for. She simply focused on amplifying what she had that they needed.
  3. If you want results quickly, you should be intentional about who you are asking for help from, and get ready to start investing in yourself for the practical support you need: Temi is a credible HR Professional, so you can say she knows a lot about recruiting and job searching, but she tried on her own for over a year and was not making progress, then recognised her need for help, and asked for it. Plus she was happy to invest in herself too, and few months after getting her desired career results, she confessed to me that she took a loan to join my group coaching program then. Wow, such intentionality!

Now Temi has a platform Bloome Academy a social enterprise, where she helps ensure talented young professionals and job seekers do not make the same mistake(s) she was making earlier.

Temi invited me to speak on her platform tomorrow 6th August 2022 on Resume Writing, LinkedIn Optimisation and Basic Interviewing Secrets. You bet! I said Yes to the call.

I also sponsored few job seekers in my network for this program, and I thought it would also be great to invite you too, to join Temi’s Masterclass Sessions which starts tomorrow and runs for five (5) weekends. This is her way to give back to job seekers, although it comes with a little commitment fee.

The last time I accepted to join her on her platform – Bloome Academy , I received a lot of amazing and overwhelming feedback, you can find someone's recent testimonial here on how he got three (3) remote jobs courtesy that session.

Hope to see you in class through the five (5) weekends, starting tomorrow. Remember to register here!
