I should have known it wasn't going to be a 'normal' start.

Imagine your first day at a new job. You’re filled with excitement, anticipation and energy. Usually, your first day or two is filled with polite introductions, reading the company handbook and early finishes. Imagine.??

No I’m serious, imagine it- because it’s a total 180 from my first few day at Unthink!?

I was stitched up with what to wear, had toilet roll thrown at my head and fell into a food coma trying to keep up with Owen eating as many wings as humanly possible.?

I knew that if I started working at Unthink, it would be a massive difference to any other role I’ve had. And I was right.?

‘Wait, so what do they actually do?’??

‘What, you get to pick your own job title?’??

‘Hanna are you being scammed again?!’??

Are just a few of the millions of questions I was asked in the month leading up to me starting.??

I get the scepticism, and I’d be lying to say I wasn’t a little sceptic too. Since starting my career, I’ve been led to believe that you do the job that’s asked of you, and it mostly resembles something that’s a cross between The Trueman Show and Groundhog Day, (if anyone ever asked me for a horror film recommendation, I always give those 2 a special shoutout!)?

Coming into Unthink, it was more like a cross between The Hangover (check out our last behind-the-scenes vlog to see why ) and Moneyball, sadly Brad Pitt isn’t part of the Unthink crew though…yet!?

My first day was absolute turmoil. From being the only one to attend the team meeting not in a suit and tie to my laptop locking me out for 5 hours. I could have thrown in the towel then, ‘nah it’s not for me! I like a quiet behind the desk life where I can just ring IT with any issues, I sign in on a time sheet and I’m buried in excel spreadsheets.’ But I thought actually, this is more my style.??

So I kept going, and in that same week I filmed my intro videos with our video guru Timmy, spent the evening getting to know the team over chicken wings & margs and also got introduced to the new project I was managing, and to be honest I was still no clearer about what my role was but I was damn excited to get cracking!?

The week after that, I was lucky enough to be able to meet the team at The Retreat and spend a few days with everyone and their families. Let me tell you, you reeeeally get to know a person by how they speed walk. I’ve never seen such competitiveness, but I guess when you’re competing against two Olympians you’ve really got to bring out the big guns. It was two days of getting to know everyone outside of work, a time to see why and how this small team could make sure a huge impact and shake up the norm and after spending literally 5 minutes with everyone it’s easy to see how.?

Passion, enthusiasm and a real sense of community are just a few things that I could tell Unthink embodied, and before getting the job I assumed that by the mass amount of work they do that I’d be meeting a team of 20! I met a team of 5. 6 people with the passion and enthusiasm of a small village and I knew I was in the right place.?

There is a downside to me working at Unthink though I won’t lie. It’s not all wings & margs. I do life at the other end of the country. Am I looking forward to 5am starts and the rush hour train to get me into London for 8:30am on delivery days? Absolutely not! And if anyone wants to take pity on me and bag me a hotel room on those days, I won’t say no (@Hilton, you know where to find me!).?

But on the flip side, Unthink aren’t just based down South anymore, we’re now in the North. So instead of me always having to trek down to London, who’s to say I can’t bring the Unthink offer up here. Well, watch this space!?
