I see you ....
I was standing in line at Starbucks this morning at the airport in Houston prior to heading home to Spain, and got talking to a lady from the security services behind me who was explaining about the fact that if the government don’t make a decision before Sunday, she won't get paid this month. It is probably the yellow in me that drove me to ask her if she would like to go ahead of me and I offered to buy her coffee and eats.
She looked at me and said ‘I know you, you’re the guy who introduced us to the E-Colors to the airport staff when the Super Bowl was in Houston in 2017'. It turned out that not only did she know me from there when we trained over 10,000 volunteers, but she had also been to Cowboy Solution on one of our family day invites with her best friend who was a veterinary surgeon ?at the Houston Zoo, where we had also introduced our personality diversity technology.
I mention this because when walking with one of my thinking partners earlier that morning, we were discussing how some people seem to totally embrace the concept of what is known in the Zulu culture as?Sawubona?which means ‘I see you’, and which typically emits a response of ’Sikhona’ which means ‘I am here’ or ‘I exist because of you’.
In the last three weeks since I arrived in the U.S, I have had one or more interactions where I fully experienced different people's versions of sikhona, either in person or online, and it has been both appreciated and recognized.?
I know for one, I certainly don’t take it for granted.?And in fact yesterday, I wrote to over 80 people to tell them ngiyabonga?… it is a privilege to know them.
If you are reading this, particularly for those of you in leadership positions, I wonder if you realize the impact of not adopting this philosophy and live in a world of 'I see you but choose to ignore you.'
Comments and reflections more than welcome.

1 年Instinctively the Zulu cultural words whether if it’s Sawubona, Sikhona or Ngiyabonga further demonstrate what really should stand true for human relationships because this is what matters most importantly within our society. We need more care concern and compassion for each other know more than ever. As I age wiser I truly reflect on who helped me to be a better father friend and fellow human being. People and the networks we create are the reflection of seeing each other eye ??? to eye ???! #iseeuLewis #iappreicateLewis ! Thanks for sharing! Cheers ??!
