I see you. You are not alone.

I see you. You are not alone.

Excited to be a new member of the The Changemakers' Alliance

My father died when I was very young. A few years ago, for the first time since then, I visited his grave in rural Nova Scotia, Canada. On his simple tombstone was the word, “Peace.”

Without even knowing it, that word has been the driver of who I wanted to be. Growing up without many friends, my vivid imagination would create a world that stood on the brink of destruction, but in every story, dream, and imaginative play, peace would prevail.

Peace with myself.

Peace with others.

Peace with our planet.

Now that empathic, driven, passion to make the world a better place is continuing to open up new opportunities, new connections, and new platforms for influence. It hasn’t been an easy road. There has been moments of deep despair, darkness, and depression. But there have also been moments of hope, victory, and deep connection. Out of this comes a determination to connect with others, to see them, to be seen, to collaborate and bring my father’s dying wish to the world: Peace.

?

It’s the Story that drives us.

?

An oasis of my loneliness growing up was the stage. I feel in love with acting and theater. It became a singular purpose to study, learn, and excel at the craft of acting. Not to be famous or rich (although I wouldn’t complain!), but to be proud of myself and inspire others to see the world and feel differently about themselves and their relationships.

Even with this intense focus, there was something else that continued to knock on my soul and whisper in my ear. Acting was great, but it wasn’t enough. I admire great actors and they have tremendous influence upon our culture, but for me, I needed something more direct. I discovered communication, storytelling, and public speaking. In fact, I had been doing speaking since before acting but never considered it as a “thing”.

However, it was a series of difficult life circumstances that pruned everything else away so that my story and my knowledge could be crafted into a speaking and coaching business, where now I can truly say, “I’m a Global Changemaker!”

?

We are more influential than we think we are!

?

I spent my university years, and most years since then, studying communication and sociology. I’ve travelled internationally to speak and give workshops on connection, storytelling, influence, and vulnerability. I have spent a decade teaching people that what we do makes a difference, and it’s more impactful than we can imagine! We have the power to make the world better!

?

But let’s take a step back:

In my recent studies, one theme was forever poking me in the forehead. Until I slowed down, took a pause, and asked, “Who am I?” I couldn’t see it. Now a new adventure begins that has drawn me to connect with like-minded/souled people around the world.

Yes! We can change our story and change the world. But we can’t do it, until we are empowered to do so.

Over the last few years, I’ve seen hopelessness rise: Climate change, AI, Covid, Authoritarianism, Capitalistic unchecked greed, misinformation, and so forth. It’s overwhelming. We can’t change the story of humanity until we believe we can!

These are not separate problems. Everything, and everyone is connected! When our determination gives rise to hope, we can create massive and impactful change. How can we believe? By connecting and sharing stories. By sharing in our grief and our joy. By walking with each other, side by side in our defeats and our victories. When we rise together, anything can happen.

?

So… It comes back to “We are not alone!”

?

In understanding this, I have started an eco-anxiety group here in Vancouver. I’m building connections with other professionals, scientists, authors, and entrepreneurs who are also change-makers at heart. I don’t know where the path with lead us, but some ideas are around workshops, coaching groups, documentaries, and more!

?

I’m not a scientist or famous author. I’m not a politician and I’m not rich.

But I don’t need to be.

I have you all.

We have each other, and those beyond these virtual walls that believe as we do. This group and other like you encourage me because we are not alone. Peace is a tangible thing just over the horizon.

How does this fit with Sustainable Development Goals?

To set an example of sustainable practice in the speaking and coaching industry, these UN SDG’s Goals have been implemented as practice and incorporated into the mission, vision, and values of Kingfisher Communications.

SDG1: No poverty

SDG2: Zero hunger

SDG3: Good health and well-being

SDG4: Quality Education

SDG10: Reduced Inequality

SDG12: Responsible Consumption and Production

SDG13: Climate Action

SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals

If you want to know how these goals are being lived out, let me know!

?

Are you open to connect?

I’m looking forward to being involved this this community. I believe when our strength and hope are combined, we become stronger together than the sum of our parts. Humans evolved (for better or worse) to be the dominant species because we built communities, collaborated, and faced challenges together. Some of those challenges were against each other, but if that’s all we were, we would not be here. Humanity has grown because for the most part we sought peace with each other and with our environment. It’s only been recently have these been significantly out of balance.

If we dream, act, work, and play together I strongly believe that we can once again return the world to that word: Peace.

With ourselves, each other, and the living planet we are connected to.
