The ask

The back story

Two years ago. Back in the olden days when things were'normal'. I rode from Bristol (my home town) to Bordeaux in 4 days. Again as a charity fundraiser. In 2019, I rode a distance of around 300 miles (that's taking the easier 'Classic' option provided by the tour organiser).

Every second, every minute every hour was amazing - not just because of the route but because of the company, the camaraderie, the beautiful scenery and the welcomes we received in almost every town and village as we rode down from Bristol through to Portsmouth (oh that hill!) then from Le Havre to Bordeaux.

Now, I'm shooting for the big one, the 500 mile version - 125 miles every day for 4 days. Doing it this way, I can be guaranteed: an aching back, sunburn, tired legs (shut up legs), a few kg in weight loss but also the feeling that this ride, unlike the others has meaning —I'm not only doing something I get great joy from but I'll be raising money to give others the opportunities that many of us for granted.
