I really thought this. Do you too?

I really thought this. Do you too?

Hey, it's Hoodie guy..

I really thought this: If I posted every day, and I was super consistent, that I would conjure up this amazing audience.?

And I did it for the longest time, with very average results.?

Then I learned my lesson.

I have to engage to have an engaged audience.?

You have to comment, show up, and be a part of the conversation so people will talk to you too. And don't just show up talking about yourself - no one likes THAT person.?

Show up and show genuine interest in your community.

Story time…

Stress is a funny thing.

You don’t know how stressed you are until the cloud lifts.

Just this last few months I have been the most stressed I think I have ever been.

Everything was hard work.

But I had to push through, my family, my team and my future depended on it.?

When I got the news that our future was secure.

The weight lifted.

It was only then that I realised how heavy it had actually been.

After a 7 year journey and more money than I realised it would cost, (uprooting the entire family and moving to England from South Africa) , to then get told by home office Jan 15th we may not be able to stay in the country.

Let's just say that sent our levels of stress to a record high.

Finally on March the 5th we received our "letter of freedom" or UK settlement status.

Best. Day. Ever.

If you are going through a tough time I want to encourage you to hang in there.

But also to realise you don’t have to hang in there alone.?

My advice:

  1. Talk to someone
  2. Get out and walk (and talk to yourself too)
  3. Eat healthy - the junk only makes it worse
  4. Sleep - rest when you need to, you can only do so much on an empty tank

Question: Do you have support? Are you there for someone else?

What are you showing off in your featured section?

You don’t have to know what that is yet.

I’ll help you.

If you have a featured section and are using it, then very often it is a collection of posts or articles that you have shown on your profile.

It’s ok, I did that too.

Now, after some research and listening to a whole bunch of really smart people, I see that the benefit of the feature section is really using it to feature an action you want someone to take.

Book an appointment.

Subscribe to my newsletter.

It’s a whole lot less cluttered and gives people an easy way to engage with you.?

The whole reason for being on LinkedIn is that you want to grow your network.?

Right?

So how come some people just get it so wrong?

I think it is because we don’t think about how we like to be approached.

Think about your last 5 connection requests.

Which ones made you smile and which ones immediately just screamed, NOPE!

I got this one a few days ago:

Hi. Let’s connect!

So I did.

30 seconds later…..

BAM.

Hi, my name is (protected for the sake of their future). I am a lead generation expert and I would love the opportunity to help you grow your business, through high quality leads.

SLAP.

The problem with this pitch slap, besides the actual slap, was that this person only had 73 connections on LinkedIn.?

Not sure how they will help me grow if they haven’t reached 100 connections yet?

The point is don’t be a robot.?

Show me you know me.

Send a connection request that has a little personality and is super simple.

And if you really want it to work add a comment or note about why you would like to connect.

“ I saw your comment on the dangers of greenwashing.”

“Love that you are also a coffee addict”?

Something, anything so that I know you are real and have a real interest in knowing me.

How soon is too soon?

The best time to ask for a meeting is … ?

When they are ready.

How do you know when that is?

The signs they are ready for a meeting are:

  1. They ask for one - Dah!

  1. They ask for more information.

  1. Conversation chemistry in your DM’s

When you have had 2 or 3 messages with them,? and you seem to be getting along.

I asked my colleague the other day:

"What is the difference between

Selling vs Social selling?"

Commission breath - check your breath.

Make sure you are connecting and building relationships to really get to know someone.

If you are just going in for the sale, they will know and smell it on you in seconds.

Are you working from a scarcity mindset versus solving a problem?

Be different.?

Like Jon Cox

He did something unique from what I have seen anyone else do.

And..

It worked!

It got my attention.

There is still room to be unique.

Hook + image?

Hook me - only me, just talk to one person.

Don’t forget about the 3 piece bikini.

When I say 3 piece bikini it immediately makes you wonder what on earth I’m on about.

I got your attention.

LinkedIn loves selfies, so do you.

Well you love seeing other people smiling but avoid posting your own like the plague.

The reality is people want to see people and they want to see you.

We have a little experiment.

One of our clients posts regularly, and in some images we have stock photos and others are photos of him, still branded but him.

Stock images got an average of 200 impressions.

Add a photo of him and impressions jump to almost 2000?

Every. Single. Time.?

So don’t be shy.

Take more photos of yourself and let people see who you are.?

Why?

People do business with people.

Don’t get so caught up in the brand of your company that you forget that you need to be your own brand first.?

Connections - conversations - content- coaching?

Connections - because you need someone to talk to

Conversations - building quality relationships and trust?

Content - so you have something to talk about?

Coaching - because everyone needs someone in their corner, taking conversations through social selling so they actually convert

Engaging in other people's content is so important, but making sure it's the right people. I've got into the habit of engaging with people who engage in other posts I'm interested in too. Kenneth Nel
