‘I was overwhelmed and terrified, because I had done something that wasn’t right for me.’ How a nun found her calling after a series of wrong turns

After years spent trying to make it as an actress and an advertising professional, Sister Monica Clare realized she was deeply unhappy and had spent her life doing what others had told her to do.

“I said, ‘I’m going to start doing what I want to do, instead of what other people see me as.’”

She took a look at how she was spending her time, and realized that what she enjoyed most was going to church and praying, and realized she needed to follow her childhood dream of becoming a nun.

A combination of therapy, lots of research, and learning to follow her own intuitions eventually led her to quit her job in Hollywood and join an Episcopalian convent in New Jersey.
