"I only hire Generalists"
Note from Stanley
Incentives are an interesting element of the human condition and, by extension, business.
Often we think of incentives as 'bonuses' for doing your job well.
But, reading Jason Murphy's book Incentivology last week gave me an insight into the unintended consequences our decisions have and the incentives they provide people.
One of the unintended consequences of telling my team that they're paid to do a job instead of hourly is that they're now hyperefficient at their jobs, coming in under the time I originally calculated.
As we work from home during the lockdown, they can take the rest of the day off, knowing they have completed all the work set out for them.
But, now there is a battle inside my head.
Do I get my team to do more, maximising my return on them?
Or am I happy they are getting the job done I originally paid them to do?
Or, is there a third option?
Can I incentivise them to develop their personal brands and professional skills during this void in their workweek?
Recently I have been dangling carrots before them to inspire as such.
This weeks newsletter full of amazing content is the consequence of those incentives.
I hope you enjoy.

Get To Know Us - The Attention Seeker Team
How to get a bunch of introverted extroverts to create content?
Ask them to come up with ideas and let them take charge!
We want our networks and clients to see who The Attention Seekers are. What better way to do this than film a ‘Get To Know Us’ video.
We wanted to showcase how much we love working with each other, along with our strong team culture and interpersonal relationships that help us be more productive while having the best time doing it.
Another reason for creating this video was to bring the focus to who we really are!
We feel like this was the best way for our network to understand the people they’re getting in business with.
Have a watch and let us know what you think.
Introducing our very own Podcast!
Are you OVERFLOWING with ideas?
We know we are!
There are so many pieces of content that we have been wanting to create, one of which included this podcast.
We spend so much of our day on social media and LinkedIn, I mean that's our job right?
There is SO much content on LinkedIn posted every second, and that's just 1 platform. While catching up in one of our Friday afternoon debriefs, we thought 'why not do a LinkedIn debrief for the week?'.
Of course, everyone jumped on the idea, and here we are.
This podcast will cover off any interesting, weird and, wonderful posts we have seen on LinkedIn throughout the week. If you want to be featured in our weekly podcast, use the hashtag #TASLinkedInRoundup - you never know, we might just talk about you!
This week, one of our favourite posts was from Stephen Paul Wright and we loved it because we thought the picture alone said one thousand words! Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that his costume is a reference to one of the biggest memes of the year. All he had to do to get great engagement was post a picture of his costume and his job was done. It clearly shows you how powerful a picture can be.
You've seen it (or heard it) here first.
Supercharge your social wellbeing.
3 年Kia ora Stanley. Slight digression, but have you watched Dan Pink's TED, The puzzle of motivation? If you haven't yet, you might find it interesting. Hi to Claire and the team - stay fabulous, y'all.

3 年Interesting, do you have a swings and round abouts approach so when they're busy they do more hours to get the job done? Are they given tasks or do they determine what needs to be done?
